Jim's is overall a very nice restaurant. The decor/ambience is appealing and tasteful. It is well suited for a romantic dinner but is also comfortable for friends/business partners. The steaks and other land meats are excellent: well prepared and ample portions. The seafood, however, can be disappointing and is often "hit and miss." The sides and salads are well done. Overall, this is a great place for steaks and similar meats, but you may be disappointed in the seafood.

From the numerous times my wife and I have frequented Jim's Steakhouse, we can state without reservation they offer the best aged steaks and creative seafood in the area. The service staff is second to none and the experience is one which you will want to revisit time and again. Hat's off to Greg, Kayla and all the staff.

Went to Jim's on a Sunday evening (big mistake), to celebrate a special occasion with 5 guests, based on the reviews on this site. What a terrible disappointment. There were a few customers in the bar area and the large restaurant area itself was deserted. This should have been the tip-off. Although the service was pleasant the food was awful. The bread was stale, the baked potatoes had been sitting in a warmer for a long time (more steamed than baked), and the steaks were, undersized, overcooked (medium rare is not the same as medium-well), expensive, and hardly befitting a place that calls itself a steakhouse. Perhaps the meals are better on busy weekend evenings, but Sunday is not the day to dine at Jim's. If they were honest about it they would simply close the restaurant on Sunday evenings, only serve drinks at the bar and not pretend to be open for dining. It certainly was a memorable evening for I will remember not to dine at Jim's ever again.

“One of the best steak house's in the country”

I have no idea where anyone could ever come away from Jim's and not think it is the best. I have been to many steak houses across the country (travel a lot for my job) and Jim's is better to me than most of the nationally renown steakhouses that I have been to.

The ONLY dressing to get is the house dressing. Great salad. Ask for the twice-bake potato (not listed on the menu) if you like that kind, they are heaven. Everything, including the seafood is the best. The ambiance is great.

It is an Adult restaurant.

If you are expecting a family, all you can eat, dog food grade meat product, "steak house" this is not for you. Pricey, but worth every penny.

When we have customers in town, we always take them to Jim's. They are always shocked that a steak house of this quality is in our medium sized town.

This is where adults go for a great steak and/or crab legs in a traditional environment. It's not a kid's restaurant and it's not a bargain restaurant. The two negative reviews were from people expecting Jim's Steakhouse to be what it's not.

There is a cigar area at the restaurant and a traditional bar complete with live piano music. Yes, there is the ambient smell of cigar tobacco, yet even as a non-smoker, it was not offensive.
It's all part of the 'look and feel' of the restaurant.

You're in a steakhouse, so I recommend that you order a steak. The second choice would be crab legs. You'll have a great meal. If you have a salad, try the house 'Brittany' dressing.

If you like the look and feel and low ambient light of a classic type steakhouse, you'll enjoy your time there. The best steak between Chicago and St. Louis.

Some history: The restaurant was originally called the Britanny and was the elite Bloomington restaurant in the 70's and perhaps even 60's. While everything has built up around it, this restaurant was literally at the 'edge' of town when it started. It closed in the early 80's and was eventually reborn as Jim's Steakhouse. Even then, the food it was known for was it's 'Brittany' house salad dressing.
