“Beautiful spot but very little staff and much confusion!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

All I can say is make sure you have groceries and don't plan trips off site! horrible road and the store was not opened...although each comment says it was under construction or whatever I would be surprised if it was ever opened. We were told there was a restaurant, store and theatre but there was nothing. We arrived around 7pm and was unable to find ANYONE to help us! We had children with us and to arrive expecting to be able to pick up the "basics" as the site stated, we were VERY disappointed. We had no TV service, no internet and was told both were included...we were moved 3 times...it was eventful. Had it not been for our company and the beautiful wineries and sites to see the trip would have been a HUGE fail! Love the area, would come back for SURE but not to La Casa! By far the BIGGEST issue was the lack of staff...it really felt like no one worked there! We honestly felt bad for the one young fellow who always seemed to be running around with his head cut off! I would make sure when you book to confirm everything is opened and what is ACTUALLY included. Beautiful spot, if everything they say is opened I'm sure it would have been an amazing trip! The price is amazing...too good to be true ;)

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Sorry you found your stay to be so confusing. If you happened to be staying at our resort before the long weekend in May of last year, you are correct in your statement there is very little staff on site. The majority of our staff begin working at the resort, and doing on-site check-in the same time the amenities open, May long weekend of every year. Our store did end up opening, as did a grill (to replace the recently-closed restaurant you mentioned), but opened far later than we had expected due to a number of unforeseen circumstances beyond our control; this year should be very different as the store is going to be privately run. The Movie Theater you speak of used to be available to all La Casa guests, but as the Events Center is now privately owned, it is only available for those guests who rent the Events Center. Our website has been updated for quite some to reflect the current amenities we have available for all La Casa guests, and I’m sorry you were under the impression the other amenities you mentioned were still available…it is possible you were viewing another website (there are more than one related to our resort – a number of owners rent privately, and the resort itself has a website for potential owners) which did not reflect the current situation of the resort. In any event, sorry that your experience was confusing and that you felt we were understaffed. We do our best to keep our guests happy and with every year, continue to improve in our services.

We travelled with our kids, along with friends of ours and their son (4 adults and 2 children total).
Overall! we were pretty happy with our stay.we stayed the first week in July, the weather was spectacular.we all got sunburnt very quickly lol thank goodness for the a.c!
The cottage was clean and fairly spacious . The beds are a touch hard,no the furniture could be more modern.that being said, they were all in good condition. The dresser drawers did stick.
There was a cable box upstairs in the loft, but no tv.
The loft was a nice touch,However, because it's open to the living areas below it can be pretty noisy if the kids were up before you in the morning. The view from the loft was incredible....you could see clear across the lake with the hills all around..it was breathtaking taking.although, there were no curtains on the windows....so that sunrise was blinding .
The "beach" was a bit painful.
The steep slope down from the road was a chore going back up.
I definitely recommend water shoes, those rocks are incredibly painful as you slowly move into the freezing cold water.
Once in the water,it was so refreshing ,absolutely perfect.
The trampolines for the kids was a nice touch.
We did use the kayaks once, the kids enjoyed it.

If you do any research at all,you will know you need to pick up groceries before you arrive .that certainly wasn't an issue for us.and we knew exactly what to expect.
Yes the road in winding .but as long as you drive at a speed that is comfortable to you and use your common sense, you'll be fine.

We will be returning again this summer!!

Hi EricaS-yeg,
Thank you for your review. Glad to hear you had a great week at La Casa and that you enjoyed the perfection of the lake. We definitely recommend bringing water shoes for the beach because as you mention, it is rather rocky. With regards to the cable box in the loft, we generally do not have t.v.’s in any of our lofts, and it’s possible the cable box was left there by the owner from the last time they stayed. As all of our cottages are independently owned, it is difficult to say for sure, but we do try to keep our cottages as uniform as possible, and apologize if the cable box with no t.v. was at the very least, confusing. Our lofts definitely have incredible views and a lot of sunshine, one of the reasons we do not have curtains in our lofts. But your observation is helpful in that in future, we can suggest our guests bring a sleeping mask and/or perhaps some earplugs in the event they intend to sleep in the loft with young children downstairs. Your comment about the sunburns is a good reminder that suntan lotion is an important investment when spending time at La Casa as the summer months can be very warm and sunny in the Okanogan. Thanks again for your review, and we look forward to seeing you and your family soon.

To those considering Lacasa in the summer of 2014,

I've read all the reviews and compared them to my own observations/experiences of the last 8 summers at Lacasa.

Reviewers comments about ensuring you pick up your groceries before you arrive, the winding road to Lacasa, the terrain of the resort, the rocky beach, the distance to Vernon or Kelowna and the inadequacy of the onsite store and restaurant are all accurate.

Reviewers comments about the beauty of the views (made possible by the hilly terrain), the sense of "getting away from it all" (made possible by the winding road and distance from Vernon and Kelowna), the sense of privacy and space (made possible by the individual cottage plan of the resort), the general cleanliness of the resort (kept so by awesome hard working Strata staff) and the crystal clear lake (attributable to the rocky nature of the shoreline) are also all accurate.

I can't comment on the services provided by the onsite management company(s) for cottages in the rental pool, or individual services provided by owners if you are renting directly. But, if you happen to meet any owners on your visit, you will definitely find them very friendly, happy and helpful.

The Little Kingdom Store on the OKIB Reserve (20 min) doesn't get enough mention as a good alternative for groceries(gas) if you run out of something while your at Lacasa. The people are super friendly and you'd be amazed at what they carry.

So it boils down to making an informed choice. These truthful reviews should be very helpful in that regard. There's a perfect holiday destination for everyone. For my family it's Lacasa for all the above reasons and more below:

The Cantina building (store and grill) was purchased by the Strata members at the end of 2013. Planning for its operation is still being developed, but It's safe to say that the stores offerings and level of service, now in the hands of the resort owners, will be noticeably improved when it reopens in the spring of 2014. Actions like this, by the owners, are improving the resort every year. So, don't be jaded by out of date comments.

Lacasa has direct access to thousands of hectares of crown land (with trails) to explore. Bring your all-terrain toys with you.

Lacasa has a large marina if you have your own boat. Alternatively, you can arrange rentals from outlets elsewhere on the lake.

If chilling on the deck with a drink and a good book, or the onsite amenities are getting tiresome, Lacasa will well situated for some obvious day trips to wineries, amusement parks, shopping or dining. As for us, we're into the not so routine. Here's a couple of our favorites:

The Flea Market and drive-in movie at Starlight in Enderby (1 hr) is a must for our family every summer (supper at the local fish and chip joint beforehand).

Caravan Farm Theatre (1 hr). Hillarious!

Hope this helps your summer 2014 vacation decision.

(I am an owner at Lacasa since 2006 with a family of four, now high school aged kids)

(I am an owner and my family of six can't wait for summer there again in 2014).

Hi Craig, thank you so much for your detailed review of La Casa. You make some excellent points about perspective, ie., treasuring a windy road to a secluded resort as it offers hilly terrain, a beautiful lake view, and an opportunity to step away from the city; as well as make a number of great recommendations, including using the Little Kingdom store on the OKIB reserve, and checking out the local theater scene. We do our best to keep our guests informed, and include information about stocking up on groceries, picking up water shoes, sun-tan lotion etc., in the welcome package we email out roughly 7 days before our guests arrival, and feel this is one of the many advantages of booking with our rental company. We too are looking forward to an improved experience for our guests with a Strata-run store, and hope to see continued improvements down the road. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review.

We stayed in La Casa to celebrate a good friend's birthday. We believe ha had a good time as we all did! The accomodations were really nice and very well kept. From the overall feel of the resort, the magnificent view from our suits and the friendly staff, I highly recommend La Casa!
It felt like we were home but in a more up scale version, the rooms and amenities were really nice and comfortable. WHile there, we enjoyed all the resources the resort offers like the pool, hot tub, basketball court, pool table, and we even rented an ATV and had some good runs around the resort.
You can't beat the view and you can't complaine about the staff, eveywhere you look is an amazing view of Kelowna from the resort and the staff were always happy to lend a hand. Overall a wonderful experience!

Hi MrsCharron, thank you for taking the time to write a review of La Casa Cottage Resort on tripadvisor. Your trip advisor review states you stayed with us in January, but I’m wondering if perhaps you stayed with us in the summer as our amenities are usually only available between May long weekend and Thanksgiving? In any case, very happy you took advantage of them during your stay, and that you were able to use your ATV. We take a lot of pride in our staff, and are happy you found them to be so helpful. Please come back to see us again, soon!

We stayed here for a short getaway. It was ideal for our time away. The price was amazing for what it included. Thoroughly satisfied with exceptionally clean and cozy accomodations. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this as a destination regardless of the season! Fully satisfied customer! We will definitely be back!

I stayed at La Casa Resort for a few weeks vacation. Coming from someone who has stayed there for quite awhile, I feel I need to offer my p.o.v.

The cottages are unique in the way that they offer you privacy and give you a homey feel (your own driveway and patio) versus a hotel-feel where the whole family is packed in like sardines.

The views are spectacular! there are a few hidden neat spots where benches and chairs are placed to give you a view overlooking the Okanagan Lake and mountains. There is the view point where you could picnic and see a gorgeous view of the whole resort and lake. You have to explore a little to find these spots but they are worthwhile.

The resort has a Kayak/Paddleboard kiosk rental down at the beach and their rental prices are at a ridiculously low price. A cheap price can cover your whole family. A favorite spot is a lighthouse which is a 30 minute kayak and you jump off into the water.

The beach itself is beautiful with mountain view where you could see the wineries across the lake. They have nicely built decks where you can sun tan and picnic but you'll have to go in the morning to get a spot on busy weekends.
Most of the area of the beach consists of pebbles and rocks because there are salmon habitats nearby, but if you look around there are some hidden spots where it is sandy. I suggest that you bring sandals or water shoes. They also have water trampolines, slides, and tubes where your kids try to run as far as possible before they hit the water.

It's a resort set on a hill so you will need some form of transportation to get around. If you are physically fit and love running this is a haven for you. If walking is not for you at all, they have golf cart rentals available.

They have a restaurant where you order your food and enjoy a lunch on the deck that overlooks the lake. However the downside is they close at 6 in evening and have no waitress.

There are two pools you have access to, I particularly like the one that sits on top of the hill and has a mountain view from the hot tub. It is regularly maintained by the staff and is enjoyable for noon and evening time relaxation.

There are volleyball courts, mini golf, basketball, and tennis for those who want to keep active and play sports for the family.

The staff are friendly, one of them (Lem) has been very helpful at the kiosk, hauling all those kayaks and paddleboards for my family even though it looked arduous.

Overall I come out with a positive experience, having spent time with family and friends.
Rested, destressed, and re-energized. Apologies for the exhaustive list but I hope it helps you out.

Room Tip: Book ahead of time.
