The website and brochure do not truly reflect the quality of this hotel. Quiet understatement seems the order of the day, and they certainly don't shout about how good they are!The place speaks for itself!
Sun Valley is breathtakingly beautiful.
The Lodge lives up to its reputation,it is immaculately maintained, rooms are very clean and well presented and fabric and furniture of good quality. Linen is changed daily. It was a real pleasure and luxury to climb into a fresh bed every night.
Every member of staff we spoke to or had dealings with was polite and genuinely keen to help. The management of Sun Valley maintain high standards throughout the resort so you can be assured of a high quality of service. We ate at Gretchen's - OK for breakfast but mediocre for dinner.
Visit the pool, bowling alley and the corridors! The black and white photos of times past are a great source of conversation and amusement!
This is truly one special place!

I am so in love with this hotel that I barely know where to begin. Everything at the lodge screams "class," and a weekend in Sun Valley is absolutely top notch.

Be sure to explore the grounds and don't miss the bowling alley in the basement of the lodge. Ice-skating is available year-round, I've been told, and I'm hoping to rent bikes for the bike paths the next time my family and I go.

Now, if only I could figure out how to decorate my home with the exquisite care with which they've decorated the lodge. Low season prices can't be beat, and visiting in April or September means fewer crowds.

Stayed at Sun valley Lodge for 5 days. Well maintained and decorated. Excellent customer service but not pretentious. Heated outdoor pool, they bring you drinks poolside while you are recovering from a hard day of skiing. Skating rink, spa, sleigh rides, shuttle service to town (5 minutes down the road), full service village which includes a Wells Fargo, music, a variety of restaurants, movies, shops, cocktail lounge, etc. Sun Valley is proud of their skiing heritage and the lodge is decorated in vintage photos and memorabila. Great touch! Families are welcome. Restaurants were just OK. Gretchen's is a pass but The Konditiri serves a great breakfast. If you have a larger party consider the condos vs. a suite. Ask for a condo close to the lodge. Stayed at the lodge because I attended a wedding. 1st class event and the food was excellent. Usually hotel wedding food is yucky; however, in this case, it was excellent.

Overall, Thumbs up for Sun Valley Lodge.

Loved our stay the SV Lodge! We stayed in the newly-redecorated Lodge rooms. Lovely decor with beautiful linens, though they don't have bottom fitted sheets, so they bunch up if you are a fitful sleeper. Remarkably quiet, too, once you are in the room. The hotel was full, but we weren't disturbed by noise from next-door or upstairs - a testimony to the lodge's construction!

The old photographs that line the halls are wonderful. If you like vintage hotels, you will love this one.

One caveat: The clientele can lean towards the "new-money-pretentious-look-at-me-in-my-$1000-ski-suit-and-diamonds-ensemble", but they are easy enough to ignore. Just get out and get going early enough that you don't have to deal with them and their entourage (and screaming misbehaving brat children) commandeering the lobby.
