“Comfortable for One Night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

We booked one night at this inn and had mixed opinions - my wife thought it was overpriced, while I thought it was reasonable value. It is on the pricey side at $132, but this area is more expensive. The room itself was large and clean, the included breakfast was very good, and the staff was friendly. However, the carpet could use a good scrubbing, and the outdoor plastic adirondack chairs need to be replaced with something more substantial. Also, the WiFi was spotty at best, but that could be due to Stanley's isolated location. All in all, a very good stay, although the price/value ratio tends towards the expensive side.

We always stay here when we come to Stanley. Rates are reasonable and staff is always friendly. Awesome breakfast in morning and rooms give you that rustic mountain feeling!! Hotel is located on the main street so you are walking distance to every place in town.

I would avoid this place in July and August. There have been huge fires in the area the past two summers and if this occurs the owner of the High Country, Melinda, will just send you a smug little email telling you she isn't going to allow you to move your reservation date, which we were willing to do, or refund your deposit because she is a "business woman."

This is what she did to us, despite the fact that the governor had declared the state a disaster area, despite the fact that we had a friend in the area who was evacuated and had to cut her vacation short . There were even reports in the tripadvisor forum that the Stanley High Country had lost power and people could not shower or use the kitchen, and how bad and smokey the air was.

Other businesses and hotels further removed from the fire were willing to rebook, but not Melinda.

Given that there were two major summer fires in the area in past years you're gambling with Stanley High Country. I'd place my bet elsewhere than with this self-proclaimed 'businessperson."

The hotel was clean and nicely appointed in the guest rooms. I would have liked more choices for the breakfast because it was fairly limited in scope. The area is absolutely gorgeous! Be sure to go see Redfish lake which is not too far from the town.

We were supposed to stay in Sun Valley at the Inn at Ellsworth but because of the forest fires we had to reroute our trip at the last minute and find new accommodations for thirteen. The High Country Inn provided six clean, comfortable and quiet rooms... at a great price! It had the feel of a high country cabin with the amenities of a hotel. The staff was very helpful in suggesting rooms, restaurants and local sites. We highly recommend it!

Dang! We were there for two nights but not two nights when they serve dinner. We would have loved to try the Bistro. Next time I'll plan better. The room was very nice. Our upstairs room shared a balcony with other rooms which meant there was an entrance on both sides - one interior and one on the balcony. Most of the time we were the only ones out there. It would have been nice if they could have provided more comfortable chairs out there. The stacking plastic chairs were good for stacking not sitting. The view of the Sawtooths was partially blocked by cabins and utility poles but still nice. The reception was warm, the room comfortable and very clean - nice "mountain cabin" styled furniture and a roomy bath. Breakfast was similar to a motel breakfast with hard boiled eggs, waffles, scrambled eggs etc., in a buffet down stairs. It was ok but I expected better because of the reputation of the dinners.
