“Good but has drawbacks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2011

Room was spacious and clean. If you want to walk the trails around the resort and can cater for yourself, it is a good spot. If you want to be close to town and do not want to cater for yourself (limited restaurants), then stay in town.

My husband and I visited the schweitzer mountain resort on our way to Glacier National Park this july, from Seattle.
Though we found it a bit difficult to find, but not so much and it was a good find indeed.
I had read about the resort and found out that they provide a certain lift ride upto the mountain top.The resort is well built and quite a few shops are also there. The lift ride was only 10$ and oh we loved it.Its a pretty long ride and takes you upto the mountain top and gives a magnificent view of thelake and mountain ranges.
Apparently we were the only ones up the mountain and we saw few people in the resort premises.I am sure the place is a skiing paradise in winters but fun place in summers. It was a fun stop for us on the way but we certainly plan to visit the place again and stay in the resort for a few days to enjoy the scenery.

Wow! What a great place! We spent the weekend at the White Pine Lodge and had a wonderful time. As a frequent traveler, I use Tripadvisor reviews as a major source for information on hotels. The reviews here however combine two very different properties. The Selkirk Lodge and the White Pine Lodge are apples and oranges. The White Pine offers fully furnished condos, complete kitchens, private hot tub, execise room, and plenty of underground parking. The Selkirk is more of a hotel, the rooms only have a kitchenette. Also the Selkirk Lodge has a view of the White Pine, while the White Pine has a view of the lake. I understand that they are managed by the same company, but they are completely different. The majority of reviews are for the Selkirk Lodge.

Nice hotel, picturesque location at the top of a ski mountain. Very peaceful in summer (not a whole lot going on). Rooms were nice, hotel itself was nice, service was poor. Hotel is woefully understaffed (experienced this at front desk and coffee shop). Front desk check in waits were long (20+ minutes), and generally staff were unavailable for assistance. Too bad, because the hotel scores well on just about every other dimension.

The lodge is 9.5 miles up a windy mountain road from the main drag outside of Sandpoint. It was the off-season, so not much was open except for one restaurant, which was good for the price. The room was clean, spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable, with a lovely bed sporting a new Tempur-Pedic topper, which made for a great night's sleep. An early morning hike up the nature trail yielded spectacular views of Lake Pend Oreille and surrounding mountains in three directions, as well as wildlife along the way.

During summer, this is a good choice for peace and quiet, but not for one looking for any kind of nightlife or lots of activities. Also, pairs of rooms share a primary door, with each room having its own secondary door. This probably is a nice touch during ski season for families who book two rooms, but otherwise is a minor annoyance.

Great location great views. Nice little gourmet store right downstairs with great wines and food. Having a full kitchen in our condo was a real plus. During a so-so winter, I was truely amazed at the great snow we had. Good times at Pucci's Pub and the St.Bernard. We will be back for sure.

We stayed here during Christmas break, the location fantastic, the views phenomenal. This was our 4th visit, the last few were great, other than having to evacuate the hotel one morning due to a fire in the elevator.

This visit was quite different and disappointing. To start, we tried to park in the covered parking and the garage door nearly dropped on top of our car. They had to come work on the door in order for us to move into the garage...to find no parking spaces. The garage was full our entire stay. Mind you this is a ski resort and we were paying to stay on the hill.

Next misstep, they brought in a roll away, however it didn't have any sheets. Not a big deal, a guy with his ball cap cocked to the side, came back later to roll it out the door, make it up and roll it back in. Not very professional.

The temperatures on the mountain were cold, it was about 8 degrees each morning. Sadly, the furnace in our room quit working during the first night. Needless to say it was freezing! The next morning a guy came to fix it, but was called away and left us a temporary portable heater. I called to ask the status of the furnace, and said they would get back to me. Never did hear back. SInce the furnace wasn't working there was no recirculating air in the room (2 adults 2 teens and wet ski gear...), so we were forced to keep the window open. The small heater couldn't keep up with the 8 degrees, so it was again freezing. We had to go into the hallway to warm up.

So maybe a nice warm hot tub would help, right? Not if they are half empty or being cleaned and therefore cold. We never even got a chance to use them.

One night the toilet just broke. We called to report it broken and leaking, so they sent up a plunger. Wrong problem, it was broken and required a plumber to replace the guts of the toilet. After a few hours of a plumber in our room, it was finally fixed, but left a huge mess of wet towels and black toilet fixing gunk on the toilet, floor and in the shower. When the manager came to apologize, with a leftover gift basket from some event, she saw the mess and sent someone to clean it up. It was about 10pm by now and the cleaners had gone home, so the person that came really didn't want to be there and did a terrible job.

I inadvertently misplaced an envelope of pictures at the hotel. I called them three times about it, finally a week later, they were found. I was so relieved, however it is now 21 days since that call and I have not received them. I even told them they could charge the postage to my card on file. I called to ask if anyone knew where they were and got the runaround that the gal sending them to me is 'kinda weird', but I should have them in a few days. We'll see.

So to end a long gripe, we were really disappointed with our stay, we spent a ton of money in their restaurants, shops, lift tickets, etc. not to mention precious vacation time with our kids. I wish they would have at least acknowledged their feedback form they sent to us that we immediately filled in and emailed back. Bottom line, unprofessional and poor customer service...property seems to be worn, tired and breaking down.

Did I mention they didn't have any complimentary toothbrushes?
