“Not up to par”

Stagecoach Inn

Sep 20, 2008

In spite of having made our reservation 3 months earlier, when we arrived we were told our room was on the highway side.It was only after 15 or 20 minutes of arguing and only after we showed the clerk our written confirmation that stated "2 queen beds river side" that we received our room This is fun after you arrive hot and tired after a day of driving and sightseeing!
The room was somewhat dated and not very clean. There was no soap in the dispenser and very few Kleenexes. We would have loved a cup of coffee but no coffee maker. This is the first hotel in years that we have found without a coffeemaker. The balcony was nice to view the river but it was filthy and no chairs were provided. The breakfast was the most meager I have seen in a long long time.No more than a 2 out of 5

“Great staff, but cleanliness an issue”

The hotel staff was very pleasant and gave great suggestions/directions for things to do and where to dine in the area. One of the front desk people also acted promptly after I alerted her that the toilet and tub in my room had not been cleaned. She immediately cleaned it herself. The rest of the room seemed fine cleanliness-wise. Pluses besides the staff were that it had a balconey that overlooked the river. Minuses were the somewhat lacking continental breakfast and the unclean bathroom..

“Almost There, Good Improvement Though”

Stagecoach Inn

Aug 12, 2008

I stayed here several times a few years ago. I don't recall any major problems then, but I also don't recall anything sticking out to say that this was THE place to stay. They have done some work at this place though. I don't recall it having a pool then, but it does now. The pool was great. A very nice addition. The WiFi is also a nice addition. Obviously some years ago, they didn't have it, but they do now and it worked great. Be sure to get a room on the river side when staying here. We were right by the pool, but because we were on the riverside we didn't have any noise problems. The front desk staff was pretty nice. Check in was smooth, no problems. We had a problem with our remote for the TV, and the lady working the desk came to our room with a handful of remotes to try out. The check in area smelled heavily of smoke when we checked in, but when we went to breakfast, it was no longer around. The website says they have a limited number of smoking rooms available (which is great, 0 would be better). We didn't see any, but we also didn't look at every door. The breakfast is your average continental breakfast. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing to complain about. You get yogurt, hot cereal, cold cereal, fruit, bagels, toast, etc. Some people would say the decor is dated, but that didn't really bother us. We just need a clean room, clean bed, and services delivered that are advertised. From that list, they delivered. The short comings that we found were that the room (single queen) only had 2 very small and thin pillows. We didn't ask the front desk for more, but I bet they would have given them if we did. The main problem we had was the thin (VERY THIN) walls. If you have good courteous neighbors, this won't be a problem. At night, our neighbor turned on the Olympics and had the TV blaring. Because it was so loud, they had to talk loud. So we could clearly hear the opening ceremony as well as their conversations. This wasn't a HUGE problem though, because it was relatively early and we weren't going to bed yet. The big problem came the next morning. Promptly at 6 AM, they turned on the TV to CNN or something and had it turned WAY too loud. One possible cause for the loudness might be the fact that the room had a door connecting our room to theirs. I believe their TV was just to the left of the door (from their side) and our bed was just to the right of the door (from our side). Because of the locations the sound must have been coming through the doorway with little to stop it. So, the thin walls could make or break your stay here. Had the walls been thicker and we had better neighbors, I would have given this place 4 out of 5.

“Right on the River”

Stagecoach Inn

Jul 6, 2008

I think we got the best room in the house, #259. The property sits right on the Salmon River and our room was riverside, second floor. We could look off the balcony right at the river as it tumbled over some rocks. We left the balcony door open all the time so we could hear the water. The room was large and easily accommodated the two queen beds. The bath is spartan, only one sink. The linens were great - fluffy towels/wash cloths. Free breakfast is continental, no waffle maker, not hot dishes but area was clean, staff was friendly and efficient. Make sure to eat where the locals do: the Shady Nook for a great dinner and Pearce’s Pancake and Steak House for breakfast - order the scones.

I've stayed at the Stagecoagh in twice, once in the summer of 2005 and again for one night in the summer of 2006. It was pretty standard for an old hotel. The room was adequate and clean. The best features were really cool A/C and the fact that you are right next to the beautiful Salmon River.

I highly recommend going on a multi-day rafting trip down the Salmon River (I've done the Main Salmon twice). This is a good place to stay and is about as close to the launch point as you can get and not be sleeping in a tent.

The breakfast was about average for a motel, and the staff was friendly.
