When deciding where to go for our honeymoon, my husband and I chose to get away from crowds of people and mainstream tourism. Neither of us had ever been to Idaho, but we settled blindly on Rigby based on the appealing website of the Blue Heron Inn. We couldn't have been more satisfied. We hadn't a clue what we were going to do in the area during our 5 night stay, but after the first morning, we had a week's itinerary all planned out by Claudia, who seemed genuinely excited to help us discover the area's attractions. From touring Yellowstone to river-rafting in the Grand Tetons to horseback riding in the Targhee National Forest to fly-fishing on the Snake River to spending a day shopping in Jackson Hole... there is definitely no lack of things to do! Furthermore, neither my husband nor I are very interested in fishing, but considering the location of the Inn - right on the banks of the Snake River - we couldn't resist buying a cheap pole in Rigby and spending our evenings fishing practically from our doorstep!
As for the Inn, it was an absolutely wonderful find. It is located in a beautiful and picturesque setting and manages to pull off the feeling of luxury without being pretentious. We stayed in the Blue Heron Suite, which had a beautiful river view from the private balcony. Although the days were warm, the evenings cooled off enough to be comfortable.. and even enough to enjoy the oversized jetted tub. The pool table in the downstairs game room was an added bonus and a great way to occupy quiet nights after long, eventful days.
And finally, Dave and Claudia were perfect hosts. Breakfasts, which they made together, were a good mix of gourmet dining and "good old fashioned down-home cooking." (Also, way more food than I could ever eat in an entire day... bring your appetite!)They were both a wealth of knowledge and went out of their way to set up all of our reservations for us.
We couldn't have picked a better spot to spend our honeymoon! Thanks for a great time!
