A group of friends came in off the lake one evening to have a cocktail. We tied our boat up at the transient docs, and went up to the bar. Aside from being way too hot in there, we were served promptly. It was definitely too hot in there so we all decided to go have our cocktails on the patio. We were seated near the railing on some flimsy k-mart blue-light special plastic chairs which if lent backward, it felt like the chairs were going to break. Aside from the cheap furniture which is not the point of this review, just a side note, this story is to express our dissatisfaction from the wait staff(owners daughter supposedly). We asked if we could see a menu, but were told the kitchen was closed. Ok, so we asked if we could purchase some chips and salsa, and she said she could do that. When the waitress returned, we had a small basket of chips, and some salsa in a plastic beer cup..(“4 star-restaurant” at its finest here, who rates these places anyway) we were all quite shocked, (ever try getting salsa with a chip out of a plastic beer glass). So I went up to our waitress and jokingly asked if serving salsa in a plastic beer glass is appropriate for a “4 star restaurant” , I quickly got a reply from the snippy waitress, that the kitchen was closed, and she was doing us a favor by getting us chips and salsa. I then replied and asked if her management knows they are serving salsa in a beer glass, and her exact reply was.” He’s my Dad, he doesn’t give a sheit”. [I still can’t believe Craig Hill doesn’t give a sheit…but] As you can imagine, I was quite appalled, but I went back to the table to tell the others my experience who overheard the whole incident. She did come by and hastily take the salsa off the table, and return it in a proper salsa cup, but she slammed it down on our table so hard, we got stares from every other table.
At that point we put 5 bucks on the table and walked out. The place is not worth getting treated like that from some entitled 20 year old kid. I will not go back, nor will anyone from our party, and we are up at Priest lake every weekend and spend lots of money in that area. That behavior was atrocious, unacceptable and immature. So don’t be fooled by the nice setting, or the views over the water…Apparently the management “doesn’t give a sheit” and it really showed that night. There are much better places to stay and spend your money. 1) Cavanaugh’s, best food on lake, 2) Elkins, better food than hills and friendly staff, and better bands, 3) Grandview, a throwback but very friendly place and a new menu.
So.. Don’t waste your time or money at Hills, they don’t give a sheit…and it is true because we sent a letter to the owner, and haven’t heard back, so it is true, they don’t give a sheit…don’t be fooled!
Whoever rated Hills a 4-star restaurant was smoking a crack pipe! They better understand the service industry is just that, to serve! My Rating for Hills, ZERO!
