“Fresh Mex on par with most any”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

I like fresh mex and Cafe Rio is good, but pretty typical of any other fresh mex chain. Nothing in particular makes Cafe Rio stand out from the others.

“Its good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

The previous lady posted how she didn't like it because its "not authentic mexican food." That is the case. It's by no means a taco truck or anything like that and they don't pretend to be. It is quite good, especially their pork salad and and pork burrito. Don't give them terrible scores because you thought you were getting a different product. It's more tex mex style and they do it well.

“Good Fast Food Mexican”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

The food is good at Cafe Rio. Make sure you have a extra time. The service is very slow for them to prepare your food. The employees are very nice and there are many options to choose from on the menu. There is plenty of seating and even an outdoor patio. You can get taco's cheeper on Tuesday, if you are on a tighter budget. The place is clean and comfortable for families.

“Mexican....With a Twist”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

As you walk in this smallish restaurant, you are met with signs such as, "#1 Restaurant in the Nation " for overall customer satisfaction and "We squeeze approximately 1000 limes every day in every restaurant." However, we did not leave very satisfied, mostly because we like rather "pure" Mexican food, and this place had multi-ingredient "adventurous" Mexican dishes, not the regular we had expected. For instance, as we always do in a Mexican restaurant, we ordered guacamole and chips for starters. The guacamole did not look nor taste anything like regular guacamole. When I asked what was in it, they said salsa had been mixed in with it. Anyway, they were nice enough to honor my complaint and bring some recognizable guacamole, but it was basically mashed avocado with no seasoning or other traditional ingredients. Our other favorite South of the Border dish is chili rellenos, and they said they only served them one day a week, so we missed out on that. Due to the sign we had read about limes, for fun we decided to ask if they had key lime pie. They said yes, so since it is our favorite pie, -- so we got excited and ordered two to go. A girl at the desk got them from a refrigerator and scraped them out with a knife, and plopped them upside down in plastic containers for us so we could take them back to our hotel room.
Anyway, not my favorite Mexican restaurant.....but, I noticed that Cafe Rios seem to be on the rise, especially around Utah and Idaho, so if you like adventurous Mexican food, this would be a perfect place for you.
