“oldie but a goody”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

While Heyburn is the oldest state parks and one of the oldest in the Pacific Northwest, it is charming. We just returned from a week of camping in a travel trailer at the facility. During the summer of 2012, the park has the greatest camp host and hostess. If you have kids, the activities director will provide them with the most entertaining experiences. The young man is a college student from Columbia and he is terrific. Access to the Trail of the Coeur d'Alene is close by .. we rode from the campground to Harrison for lunch. Also include a hike on the Indian Cliffs trail ... photogenic views of Lake Chatcolet. We definitely will return next summer.

“Blue Heron Camper/Cabin. Lake Chacolet.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We did not know that June was the rainy season in Northern Idaho but, it did not matter! The gorgeous scenery helped us make the best of it.
I reserved this cabin from an internet site that manages national and state park accommodations.
This was easy. We were instructed to call a week to 48 hours in advance to arrange key pick-up. We called and were given a code to a lock box on the cabin door. When we arrived the door was unlocked and the key on the table and the cabin spotlessly clean.
We had been informed that we were to bring our own linens. We should have asked about specifics but we did not, so we made a trip to Target (35 miles away) and purchased what we needed to make ourselves comfortable. (We took these items to the St. Vincent de Paul center after our stay)
Blue Heron is situated in the forest with a lake view and easy access to the Coeur d'Alene Bike Trail. There is an ample front porch complete with swing. A fire pit is in front and has a grill but we did no cooking. (There is a microwave oven inside)
A short walk across the driveway takes you to the toilet facilities. No showers or sinks. Bring hand sanitizer.
We had a fantastic time in Heyburn State Park! We hiked the Indian Cliffs Trail one day. And we had a perfectly sunny day to drive to Harrison and rent bikes from Pedal Pushers. We rode the trail and had a picnic. A simply wonderful experience.
We stayed two nights. The solitude and serenity are priceless.

“Beautiful campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

We just spent an evening there and what a beautiful place. Loved it! We paid the extra $10 to reserve it...however someone was in our reserved spot and all unpacked, plus it was late. If you go during the week...don't pay the extra for a spot.
