Lower Bay and Princess Margaret beaches are very similar. Nice for swim or snorkel. Easy snorkeling at the ends of these beaches, where the rocky headlands jut out. Many small fish, grunts, parrotfish. Not much coral. Lots of urchins.
On foot you can reach an easy snorkeling spot (good with kids) and swim beach very near the Port Elizabeth town center: Walk south on the Belmont walkway along the shoreline to its very end, in front of the abandoned hotel, at the small sandy beach adjacent to the rock headland. Snorkel out along the headland in rocky shallow water (4-6 feet) to see large schools of grunt fish and some others, with a few soft corals. You can snorkel completely around this headland to 'Jacks Bar' at the northern end of Princess Margaret beach.
