“Best stay of our trip”

While on a motorcycle trip around Idaho, my buddy and I stayed in 4 Best Western motels. The first three were satisfactory but we were surprised how expensive it was to stay in the ski resort towns of Ketchum and McCall.

The last night of our trip we ended up in Orofino and decided to check out the Best Western there which was in a great location on the bank of the beautiful Clearwater River.

We were pleasantly surprised at the room rate and very happy that they offered us a room with a balcony overlooking the river. It was a wonderful place to stay and the folks at the desk were very friendly. The property looked brand new and Best Western has obviously gone upscale recently. The furnishings and landscaping were quite impressive. They have a large patio on the edge of the riverbank that is a great place to relax in nice weather.

The best part was finding the restaurant across the parking lot which also has a nice river view. It is called Dining on the Edge and you can find them on the web at diningontheedge.com.

The food there is fantastic. I would say gourmet quality, with great service and reasonable prices for what you get. You have to eat there if you are in Orofino!

I give this motel my highest recommendation and will definitely stay there again.

“Hidden Gem”

Best Western Lodge at River's Edge

Aug 15, 2008

Stayed here for one night in early August while following the Lewis and Clark Trail - it was ideal to visit the Weippe Prairie and Clearwater River route. It was a hidden gem, given its fairly isolated location for a large hotel. Lots of people must pass on Highway 12 and not know of its existence.
The hotel itself was well situated at the meeting of two rivers and the bedroom we were given was large, comfortable, clean and had access to an outside balcony with great river views - not a big balcony but large enough for the two of us.
Downstairs in the public areas everything looked clean and fresh - it is a relatively new hotel - and the air conditioning was fist class. The outside deck of the hotel was outstanding - great views down the river, comfortable seating, umbrellas when the sun is just too hot, flowers, pond and water feature. Background music was pleasant and unintrusive. When it got cooler in the evening the reception staff put on the gas, log-effect, deck heaters and they were great. Fridges near reception held beer and wine for sale - at very reasonable prices, particularly for a hotel. Not sure how they manage these prices!!
We walked downtown to eat - a short walk. Not a great choice of restaurants - we were originally going to try the Ponderosa but another visitor had tried it and said the food was ok but it was overpriced. We settled on a Mexican restaurant and it was very good.
Breakfast was fine - decent choices and plenty of space, including the outside deck for warm mornings.
This is an excellent hotel. We have stayed in many Canada/USA hotels on our travels, including some of the best, but this is easily among our best choices. Being from the UK it is unlikely we will stop here again - but we won't stop thinking about it!!

“Pleasant Stay”

Best Western Lodge at River's Edge

Jul 22, 2008

This is a very pleasant and relaxing hotel on the river. The hotel and the grounds are neat and tidy; our room was well-equipped with comfortable bed, small refrigerator, and deck with table and chairs.

The main patio with the fire pits were well done. The pool and hot tub area left a bit to be desired. The hot tub was huge, but the jets didn't do much for a massage.

The breakfast bar had a large variety of breakfast foods.

We had planned to eat dinner in the adjoining restaurant, unfortunately it is not open on Sunday evening. This was a bit of a disappointment since we had no interest in getting back in the vehicle. We ordered in pizza as an alternative which was good.

“great view of the river”

The view from our room was great, we were on the ground floor so we also had great access. But the bad things about being on the ground floor is you also get a lot of ants in your room. The hotel is aware of the problem and there's not really much they can do, which we totally understood.

The room was very clean and comfy though, and the front desk staff was great and very friendly. They even have a tiny gift shop next to the lobby.

They have an indoor pool and hot tub but it was full of teenagers making out, we so decided to pass.

I would say the worst thing about the hotel was the breakfast attendant. She would not keep things stocked, and they had a great selection of things to eat though.

If we were in the area we'd definately stay here again. We ate at the restaurant in their parking lot and it was not bad, but very pricey.

“Highly Recommend”

Best Western Lodge at River's Edge

Jul 9, 2008

I first noticed BW Orofino a couple of years ago when driving Hwy 12 and thought at that time that I'd love to stay there. I assumed it was expensve, but since my BF and I decided to go on a Harley ride over Lolo Pass and "beyond" over 4th of July weekend I decided to check in on lodging options. This hotel is outstanding for give or take $100.00 per night. I'm an outside sales travel agent so I research everywhere and everything looking for not only the best rate, but the coolest, neatest, funnest (you get the picture) place for stays and vacations. I loved the look of the deck all around the hotel and the neighboring restaurant/bar and its deck. As I said earlier, I knew I wanted to stay there, so I planned our trip around staying at this hotel. We arrived on the 4th of July and after being on a motorcyle all day promptly headed to the bar across the parking lot. It was like we were the only ones there (and we weren't) the staff was tremendous. We later had dinner at the restaurant and it was outstanding with exceptional service and knowledgable employees (I tend to stay away from hotel associated restaurants, but this one was an exception). We then had a very pleasant surprise -- the owner of the hotel and his wife were throwing a "registered guests only" party on their hotel deck with food, beer, wine, and a city fireworks display. I think that the two of them knew every guest's first name by the end of the night. They are great people and apparently struggled a little to get the place to where it is. We will DEFINITELY be back again. We might even just make it a weekend getaway occasionally just because we loved it there so much (NOT a close drive, but to us it was worth it). I think that my BF and I are fairly picky and I could find absolutely no downfalls to this place whatsoever. I have never written a review about a hotel, but our experience there was so wonderful that I had to go on line and write a review this time. We are now planning the same Harley ride with several other couples and can't wait to show them what a great "find" this place is. When you look at the place, it's not much different than any other hotel, but look deeper and you will see that the owner thought of everyone. The fish cleaning station, the great decks, the firepits on deck, the great restaurant next door, the wine, etc. available for sale in the lobby, the great morning breakfast. Not sure how they are making money, but hope they don't raise the prices before I get there again!!
