“Doesn't get any better”

Hotel McCall

Jun 27, 2006

I should have written this review years ago. I have stayed at the Hotel McCall on business trips at leat 50 times since 1990. This place is absolutely terrific. Very quiet, very comfortable, very nice staff. I usually ask for a room on the back side, only because there is occasional nighttime traffic on the street side. The hotel is so laid back that on two occassions several years ago , during the slow season, the management left me a key to the front door and told me to take any room I wanted. I don't know if they still do that, but it is typical of the super-friendly attitude of the hotel. Don't waste your time going to any other McCall hotel or motel.

What a quiet, relaxing time. The Hotel McCall has not been updated (at least the "older section). It was spotlessly clean and quiet...but the summer tourist season may change that. Wine, cookies, milk in the evenings. Coffee in the hallways beginning at 6am with 7:30 continental breakfast. Our room was #40, King private bath lakeview for $100. Perfect. Free wireless internet. Friendly and helpful front desk folks. Nice library to relax and enjoy your time in. Nice coffee shop across the street. DVD player in the room....free movie rental from the front desk collection. Phones and TV in the rooms. Definitely stay here again.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay here, though I had expected more based on the rave reviews from friends. The location is perfect, and the hotel does indeed have a quaint charm with ammenities like early evening wine in the lobby and a lovely family room from which to borrow books and magazines.

The room we had was small and much like rooms in my grandmother's home in Missouri. Not particularly elegant, but cozy and very welcoming. With updates, this hotel would score a bit higher.

“A Jewell”

This is a real jewell of a place. We stumbled upon it driving down Idaho 55, randomly looking for a place to stay. It is on a lake, and several second floor rooms have great views of the lake shore area. The restaurant, 'The Epicurean' is excellent -- with local and European favorites (although not really cheap). The present hotel has about 40 rooms, but they plan to add 100 more rooms in 2005. This will probably ruin the place. The present place has a wonderful old fashioned fireplace room, a nice lobby, and wide hallways. The fireplace room has games and puzzles if you want to try these -- ad a library. Our wing (the old wing) had no elevator. But the new wing does have an elevator. The staff tries very hard to be sure that you are happy. Our room (#30) overviewed the lake as well as the town. They told us that there could be an occasional truck in town at night, but we heard no noise at all. In the afternoon, they have a wine and peanuts hour. And in the evening they have cookies and milk. The room rate includes breakfast which is all home made, excellent scones, and all the usual cold breakfast foods. The rooms must have been renovated in the last 10 years -- they still have a 1900 character, but all the modern conveniences. The price for a double is in the 90$ range (in June), and really worth it. Parking is no problem. And you are right in the middle of this little Idaho town. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable about the area, and they really try to please.
