Definitely still the "quaint" award winner for McCall. The extensive remodel about 1-2 years ago adds an elevator, and rooms include DVD players, so we enjoyed a Netflix we brought with, and the front desk also has movies available. The free evening wine and cookie hour is now just cookies and milk since state police cracked down on alcohol non-licensed folks (no wine for art gallery stroll in Boise anymore). Rooms are beautiful. No holiday increased rates-- $125 yearround, presumably with a modest annual increase for 2008. Evening cookie quality and the free breakfast have both gone downhill. The view from the remodeled restaurant is absolutely first class, but the breakfast service was terrible (now provided from in-house restaurant)-- a half hour before our order was taken. Fre breakfast was a small bowl of fruit, one small slice of fresh coffee cake, and one pre-fabricated frozen scone. In the past breakfast was a rather lavish spread, with both hot and cold foods self-served in a lovely dining room. This used to easily justify the $25 price difference from other area hotels-- no more. Now if you opt for Hotel McCall (which I often still would) you are paying for the nice environs and staff only.

Rooms in the new wing are more modern, larger and have AC. Our party stayed in the new wing on 3rd floor, on the road side (309) and also on 2nd floor (201). Both rooms were very nice. They gave us a discount on 201 because it's near an AC unit and you can hear it all night. However, if you like low background noise while you're sleeping, it's perfect.

The old section does not have AC, but I don't think that's a problem except a few weeks during the hottest part of the year. It's more of a dorm atmosphere with folks leaving their doors open and milling about.

Breakfast was simple, but good. Awesome location (beaches and shops right across the street). Free DVDs are available (pretty big selection).

Ask about Ice Cream Alley about 1/2 block away. You get a HUGE serving of delicious ice cream for cheap.

I should have written this review years ago. I have stayed at the Hotel McCall on business trips at leat 50 times since 1990. This place is absolutely terrific. Very quiet, very comfortable, very nice staff. I usually ask for a room on the back side, only because there is occasional nighttime traffic on the street side. The hotel is so laid back that on two occassions several years ago , during the slow season, the management left me a key to the front door and told me to take any room I wanted. I don't know if they still do that, but it is typical of the super-friendly attitude of the hotel. Don't waste your time going to any other McCall hotel or motel.

What a quiet, relaxing time. The Hotel McCall has not been updated (at least the "older section). It was spotlessly clean and quiet...but the summer tourist season may change that. Wine, cookies,milk in the evenings. Coffee in the hallways beginning at 6am with 7:30 continental breakfast. Our room was #40, King private bath lakeview for $100. Perfect. Free wireless internet. Friendly and helpful front desk folks. Nice library to relax and enjoy your time in. Nice coffee shop across the street. DVD player in the room....free movie rental from the front desk collection. Phones and TV in the rooms. Definitely stay here again.
