The following is a copy of the letter I sent to the manager of the Econo Lodge at 1021 Main Street, Lewiston, Idaho 83501
Dear Sir/Madam:
I am writing to inform you of the extreme disappointment I felt at the condition I found my room while staying in your accommodations. I had informed the reservation clerk that I would be arriving very late on February 23rd and that actually it would be probably around 2am on the 24th because I was leaving the Seattle area around 8pm. However, because of the pass conditions in the mountains we didn’t arrive until 5am.
We were exhausted and just wanted to sleep but the heater was not working and we were very cold. This was supposed to be a non smoking room but it smelled of cigarettes and there were several butts around the room and in the toilet. Upon entering the room we also noticed a strong pet urine odor and what looked like wood shavings or sawdust on the floor. My daughter went to the bathroom and said the floor was gritty (dirty) and slimy on her bare feet. My other daughter pulled back the covers to get into bed (at 5am) and found the sheets very wrinkled, dirty and full of hair. It looked as though someone had already slept there.
The man who checked us in was very nice and even made sure that my credit card (which I had left on the counter) was returned to me later that morning. Around noon I went and informed a different man that I would not be staying the other two nights as I had planned. He said he needed my credit card back to give me a credit for the unused nights. The transaction was completed and we went to Shari’s down the street to eat. Upon completing our meal I was going to pay and my credit card was missing. I went back to your hotel because that is where I left it and it was no where to be seen. The man cleaning rooms swears he gave it back, but I did not have it. He must have returned it by placing it on the counter. He did not hand it to me because if he did it would be with the two receipts and the business card that he DID hand to me. In any event, there was over $200 in fraudulent charged put on my card with in two hours of leaving your establishment. You should really make it an employee policy to return cards to the customer’s hand and not put it on the counter and claim to have returned it.
I wrote you this letter to let you know that I have registered a complaint, outlining my experience as I have done here, with the corporate office about my experience. THIS WAS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER STAYED IN 40 YEARS OF TRAVEL!!!
