Had a late breakfast at Matt's with gf. The joint is tiny, and the server was not in a spectacular rush to bus tables. We ended up sitting in front of the door. In January.
Gf ordered a skillet-style dish with eggs over-hard. I had jagerschnitzel with eggs over-medium and wheat toast. Both dishes arrived with eggs cooked somewhere between sunny side up and over-easy, and I got white toast. The food was good, and the eggs were well (albeit incorrectly) cooked. When we got the check, we discovered the problem: the server's notes were unintelligible…the egg specifications looked nearly identical, and both white and wheat toast were inexplicably designated as 'W'.
Additionally (pet peeve of mine) gf asked for cream for her coffee, but server filled the cup nearly to the brim so the cream wouldn't fit. Also, we were never offered jelly for toast, or any other typical breakfast condiments. Not a huge deal, but indicative of the lousy service/training. Moreover, I asked for directions to the restroom; server's directions were scandalously bad…not even remotely helpful.
I'll give Matt's another shot because the food was good. There aren't any Michelin stars headed Matt's way, but the food is good diner food with a nice German twist.
