Description: For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. For others, it's where they met their significant other, perhaps over a bar marg. The Pioneer Saloon, renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. Natural woods, mounted game, and period firearms help recreate an authentic saloon atmosphere. Duffy and Sheila Witmer have been the sole owners of the Pioneer Saloon since 1986. Today, with their children, Alyson, Chloe and Dillon, they strive to honor a historical classic while bringing new ideas to Ketchum's restaurant scene.

“Great downtown Ketchum landmark”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We pulled into town late, and our hotel recommended the Pioneer. As it was a short walk away, it sounded like a perfect choice. The place was hopping, even on a Tuesday night. The bar in front was packed, but we only waited a couple of minutes for a table in back. We ordered IPAs while we waited for our food; I ordered a steak and my husband had the special, a rack of ribs. Our food was excellent, the service was impeccable, and when I come back to Ketchum, this is my first choice for dinner.

If you're a fan of ranching and historical memorabilia, you'll love this place. On the wall behind us was a display of barbed wire examples, each one with names and patent dates. Very cool. They also have display boards of bullets and of arrowheads, lots of antique firearms, Ernest Hemmingway memorabilia (he lived here for a time), and beautiful carved wood.

“We felt welcomed by everyone, and the food was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

We were taken to this restaurant by friends, and were overwhelmed by the welcome we received. Our server was great; she really worked hard to make sure my allergic husband got absolutely no garlic on his fantastic steak and salad. We loved being here, didn't feel rushed to finish our meal, and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. We'd have gone there another night, but were on the road, so will have to hope we get back here another time.

“The Pio Rules!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

After a very long hike we were ready for a nice dinner in an ole west atmosphere! The Pioneer was just that. Recommended by friends; we walked through a very cool bar with lots of "heads" hanging in the saloon. Very fast and friendly staff! My husband had the prime rib rare and it was perfect. I had the grilled shrimp with a skewer of grilled veggies. Wonderful! Cocktails and wine were reasonable. Staff was attentive and friendly. The sourdough bread was delicious, as was the house salad. Try the Pio as the locals call it--- a true taste of Ketchum?

“Awesome steaks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Delicious food, great servers, the food is worth the wait. It's my husband's favorite place for a giant steak! We go here for special occasions ;)

“You kind of have to stop in here when in town....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Most of our group had never been here before. We arrived at 4:50 and they begin seating for dinner at 5:30. we had a few beers in the bar with complimentary chips and salsa. as soon as it was time they sat us all down. Lots of choices, lots of beef. We all ordered beef and one person upgraded to the baked potato which i warned him would be huge. It is an Idaho #1 potato, in Idaho which is hard to find, really. Service was great, food was great, but the steaks were all ordered to medium and mine was really very medium rare and another was very vary rare and should have gone back but he didn't. the flavors were great and the rice was excellent. A great place to stop in at if your first time to Sun Valley / Ketchum.
