We pulled into town late, and our hotel recommended the Pioneer. As it was a short walk away, it sounded like a perfect choice. The place was hopping, even on a Tuesday night. The bar in front was packed, but we only waited a couple of minutes for a table in back. We ordered IPAs while we waited for our food; I ordered a steak and my husband had the special, a rack of ribs. Our food was excellent, the service was impeccable, and when I come back to Ketchum, this is my first choice for dinner.
If you're a fan of ranching and historical memorabilia, you'll love this place. On the wall behind us was a display of barbed wire examples, each one with names and patent dates. Very cool. They also have display boards of bullets and of arrowheads, lots of antique firearms, Ernest Hemmingway memorabilia (he lived here for a time), and beautiful carved wood.
