“Could Be Better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Although dated, it could be better if they were better organized. I have stayed at many Shilo
locations over the years (this one for 6 years). The quality of the facillty is becoming marginal.

Last visit - Noticed on the way to breakfast the hallway was littered with broken glass wine glasses. It was reported to the front desk but 6 hours later was still present. Hazardous!
The breakfast for 3 days had no cold cereal, milk or fruit available. Not too much to ask?

Our stay was okay. Staff was very friendly. The hotel is old and showing its age. You can tell the effort is there to make it nice but it's still a very old facility. Not too bad for the price. Definitely not a 3 star hotel.

Don't stay here if you want cool air in your hotel. The restaurant is stifling with no air conditioning. And it is hot even with the doors open. DON'T ever host an event here. We came to play bridge in the convention center and almost died in the evening. The inside temperature with several hundred people was over 85 degrees and all the staff could say is that the air conditioning is always a problem. This is only May. I cannot imagine what it must be like in there in the summer and they are not going to fix it. We will never come to a bridge tournament in Idano Falls again if it is hosted in this hotel. Too bad. It could be a great place because it is located on the river.

We had two rooms, in both rooms it appeared that the windows had not been cleaned for month, the windowsills had dirt on them and the air/heater units had spills of some sort of soda/sticky on them. One of the rooms refrigerator was full of food from someone else left behind.
The business office equipment did not serve me well, froze up and not able to print.
Breakfast was ok. The room was large with nice view.
Front desk service lacking of excitement and joy. Never got asked how we liked our stay when checking out.
Facility needing major upkeep and care.
Being a convention center I would expect more and would pay more.
During our 3 night stay our floors where never vacuumed.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms next to elevators and higher floors are more quieter.

The pool was awesome! We stayed for my daughters birthday so we could swim and this is the best pool in Idaho Falls!! It's big and warm and so much fun! The hot tub is big too! And there is a sauna AND a steam room!! The exercise room is limited, but both machines have their own tv! nice big room and was very clean. The breakfast was hot and yummy. The staff was very friendly! It's an older motel, but they have updated the rooms. Just not the lobby and common areas. If a few missing tiles or baseboard bother you, this is not your spot but you can't beat the price!

I was hoping to find a good place to have a few of my son's friends come celebrate his birthday so we got a room at the Shilo. The pool area was out of towels and we told the front desk, waited an hour, then told them again. No towels were brought to the pool all night, and when we checked in the morning there were still no towels. The pool itself was completely disgusting. There were tiles missing randomly around the edges, wires exposed in the sauna, and only a few chairs to sit on around the pool. It was unwelcoming, and I was embarassed for my son's friend's to come swim there.

In our room, while we were doing cake, one of the toddlers was excited to find a can of "Coke" under the bed and tried opening it. The problem is it was actually a Budweiser, and we didnt bring it. The bathroom in our room was gross. The water had a greasy film over it. The seat itself had drips on it from a previous guest.

In the morning, breakfast was decent, but walking through the lobby there was a mostly drank Corona by the couches from the previous night's group. The housekeeper walked in our room without knocking to ask when we were going to leave about an hour before check out.

I was glad my kids are too young to be as disgusted as I was. I almost turned around and went home to sleep in my own bed.

Dear Mrs R,

Thank you so much for letting us know about your recent stay. I was obviously disheartened to hear about your unpleasant experience. Since your stay with us in January, we have since hired a new Executive Housekeeper and have done extensive re-training with the staff regarding the cleanliness in the building. My hope is that you would give us another opportunity in the future to show you that we did read your comments and have made the necessary changes. Again, thank you for the comments. Without these comments, good and bad, from our guests, we would not be able to continually train our employees to improve our service.

Sincerely,

Angela Larson

Travellers like us are always trying to find exactly the right balance between a fabulous sleep in a clean hotel room and paying the absolute minimum of money. We stopped in Idaho Falls in late February 2012 and stayed at a less expensive brand name hotel with only a double bed, dubious cleanliness and a frantic continental breakfast. This trip we decided to spend a little more and for sure the spacious room was an upgrade with a comfortable king bed and better bedding. No, the bottom sheet did not stay tucked in but it did not affect our sleep. The breakfast was a little fragile with several selections offered in warming trays, not that warm and not that appealing. The watiress did offer juice and coffee as well as a fruit bowl, which was delicious. There were few people in the restaurant at the time so it seemed large and empty, but the setting was lovely.

Room Tip: We preferred a room overlooking the parking lot so we could keep an eye on our car. There were no p...
