“Nice B&B in a nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

We stayed at the Villa Casanova for two nights and found it to be a very nice little B&B. It is actually in Lido which worked for us since it was away from the hustle and bustle of Venice and was only a 10 minute water taxi ride to Saint Marc's Square. The B&B was quaint and the staff was very nice and helpful. The triple room was quite small but worked for us for two nights, and the breakfast buffet was very good. They have bikes to use although we did not. The only issue we had was when we returned to our room the first night we had ants in first floor our bathroom. We talked to the management the next morning and they treated our bathroom and we had no further problems. They advised that it was that time of the year. We would stay again if we return to Venice.

Came here with my friend. Friendly and helpful people made our visit a memorable one. Clean and comfy room. Great tasty breakfast. Will definitely visit again. Close to water taxi, nice restaurants and grocery store. Real value for money.

My stay at Villa Casanova was fantastic. I’m chemically sensitive so had corresponded with Alessandro, the proprietor, ahead of time to see if the rooms were, or could be made, fragrance free. He assured me that while they couldn’t guarantee anything, they would do what they could to make sure all the bedding, towels and curtains were fragrance free, and that cleaning products used ahead of time in my room would be all natural.

Their generous preparations worked out very well and my four day stay there was very pleasant indeed.

Alessandro and the staff are warm and friendly, ready to help you find places, and the breakfast they prepare is beautiful and delicious. The coffee is top notch too. My room was cozy and warm with two large windows. The free wi-fi works great too.

Another plus: it’s only a five minute walk (or less) from the boat dock. You get off the boat, turn right and walk two or three short and pleasant blocks till you see a sign pointing left to Villa Casanova. You turn left, walk half a block and there it is on your left.

Would I stay there again? Absolutely! I loved it.

It was a bit of challenge locating the hotel as despite the map, we had to ask 2 people for directions. But eventually when we got to it, we realized that it was just 5 mins. from the water bus station. Overall the place was nice, quiet and homely. Our room was spacious enough for 4 people. Breakfast was of satisfactory variety although it was not replenished immediately. The receptionist Flor was very helpful with transportation tips and corresponded with me about our stay even before we arrived.

We had a wonderful experience here in 2010 Any faults we didn't put on Tripadvisor but reported directly to the owner. I suppose second time round the rosy picture from first visit raises expectations. The breakfasts were as good as ever. We enjoyed the Lido even more so getting the cheapest coffee and tea at an outside bar just off the beach. We like to do our washing on the run so were disappointed no heated towel rails and our request for them to be heated was turned down. The mats in the room were not perfectly clean as revealed by my morning back exercises, this I had pointed out in 2010. As the owner remembered me I thought he might have paid particular attention to that. I also had brought the wrong adapter the staff tried with their own which was good but then couldn't indicate a shop where we might get one.
Luckily we found one near the Campo Santa Margherita brilliant little man who spoke no English but knew exactly what we wanted Last time we had a room which backed on to the cleaners cupboard we had no noise problems this time we had noise from next door and a herd of elephants above who also had sex just before breakfast. We know soundproofing is a problem in an old house we own one ourselves but here on holiday it got a little annoying. I t did make us wonder about the emergency provisions when the owner and staff are off site. We know only a phone call away but

Room Tip: ask for the room with least neighbours

I sometimes wonder whether J.P.Sartre visited the main island of Venice just before penning his most famous line:"L'enfer, c'est les autres" (Hell is other people). If you share his sentiments after a day being buffetted, delayed and obstructed in the world's most beautiful city by the noisy hordes of raised umbrella-led tourists from the four corners of the planet Earth, then escape to the Lido after the day's hectic sight-seeing. Getting there by fast vaporetto over the open lagoon is both quick and easy, and a short, level walk of 5-7 minutes brings you to the Villa Casanova: a haven of peace and quiet, grass and trees. It's like another world here and the beaches of the Adriatic are just a few hundred yards away.
We paid £116 a night for a large "superior" room with huge four-poster bed (number 5), significantly less than the cost of comparable accommodation on the main island. This included breakfast and the services of Alessandro, the tireless, perfect host and master of a proper espresso machine with which he will brew you the perfect cup of coffee.Guests are invited to use this machine for hot water at any time and the thoughtful provision of free English Blend teabags enabled us to brew the best cup of tea we have ever enjoyed while on holiday abroad.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, avoid the rooms on either side of the front door.
