“Dated but well kept and very pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2011

This hotel seems to still have its internal fittings from the 70s but these have actually been well kept and is very clean. The reception is open 24 hours a day and there's quite a pleasant courtyard. It's not far from the vaporetto stop on a very pleasant street in Lido, quiet and full of private homes reflecting the stylish yet relaxed nature of Lido, a great escape away from the mania of the main part of Venice.

Very goodl, friendly staff, good breakfast. Quiet street, close to waterbus link to other parts of Venice. We would stay here again. Much more peaceful than main Venice hotels.

marvellous budget hotel very clean and comfortable rooms and thank god for the air-conditioning. located on the lido it boasts a sandy beach which looked lovely although it was too hot for us to sit on. venice has an average high temprature for august of around 26o - 28o unffrtunately for us they are experiencing a heatwave with temperatures as high as 40o this is worth bearing in mind before you go as it spoilt our holiday a little.
this shabby chic hotel is ten minute walk from the vaberretta station and 5 minutes from restaurants and supermarkets. the staff are friendly and helpful. considering what we have been given in the past as a continental breakfast it was a banquette, tea, coffee, fruit, cereal fresh warm rolls, eggs, croissants, cold meat and cheese. amazing value beautiful area. at the airport is a bus ticket office where you can purchase a bus ticket to pl roma and the vaberretta across to the lido for a seven day pass it was 56 euro's a bargain, can't remember how many different vabberretta lines there were but i think we must have used them all, each trip is 6.50 euro without ticket. dont forget you must validate your ticket at the machine every time you use it. this is a very expensive city so be prepared to dig deep. whilst visiting venice at night we took in a show and enjoyed venice lite up, but beware of cover charges in restaurants and no body likes giving change

Room Tip: you get what you pay for, if you want a superior room its the same as the others only a large balcon...

The Hotel Rigel is a good option for travelers who are looking to save a little while in Venice and don't mind traveling to and from Lido Island each day. I actually liked having to get on the vaporetto every morning to see the sights of Venice as the views from the water are quite good. The hotel desk staff are all very friendly and speak English well. We had a superior double room, though I'm not sure what was so superior about it! It was perfectly adequate with a spacious bathroom and small balcony though the view was of another building. The hotel is well located to the vaporetto station, and the breakfast buffet offers good variety to start your day. As others have mentioned, the walls are absurdly thin, so you do hear people talking, toilets flushing, etc. Fortunately no one was obnoxiously loud when we were there. The hotel offers limited parking for 5 euros per day. We had requested it but arrived too late in the day to actually get a spot, so be aware that it's not guaranteed. Fortunately we found free parking a few blocks away and were able to leave the car there for three days! So it actually worked to our advantage to have not gotten a spot at the hotel.

We stayed one night here on the Lido during our trip to Venice. Nice location, staff very friendly, the room was quite spacious (superior room), unfortunately no minibar to cool drinking water, no in-room safe. The restaurant possibilities in the near vicinity are limited and quite pricey but this is ,after all, Venice! Breakfast was O.K. we were able to choose from Cappucino,Latte Macchiato etc. which is not always the case in hotels. A tip though, try and avoid weekends! Although a fairly small hotel, they cater for coach tours and we were unfortunately there from Sat-Sun at the same time as a group of students from Austria and another group from America. They naturally wanted to enjoy themselves and it was far from peaceful! Otherwise I think the sound-proofing is bearable!
For a quick and relaxing getaway from throbbing Venice the Lido is worth a visit, but don't book for too long!!

Really nice hotel located just off the main lido road, only a short 5 minute walk to the water bus station and a 10 minute water bus ride to the center of venice. Tickets for the water bus (vaporetto) only cost us 33 euros for 72 hours and its well worth the money as you can jump on and off the buses and travel round the islands as often as you want. Make sure you visit the glass making island of murano and the really pretty island of burano (google it!) which has all the houses painted different colours. We also visited the island of Torcello but there wasnt much there apart from deserted fields and farms and an old church so if your in a rush give it a miss! Venice is exactly how you imagine it, canals everywhere lots of little (expensive) shops and restaurants. If you go on a gondula make sure you insist on paying upfront otherwise once your sat in the boat they will double the price and rip you off! If we go to venice again would definitely stay at the hotel Rigel, the staff are really friendly and helpfull. Its nice to get away from overcrowded venice onto the smaller, calmer safe island of the lido and the restaurants are much better value for money!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The hotel Rigel, built in the 60's, is situated on one of the most important islands of Venice. Its importance and uniqueness are due to being the only one facing the Adriatic Sea on one side and on the other the basin of St. Mark's, just before the historical Square of St.Mark's, centre of the ancient Republic of Venice. Another characteristic that makes it unique, compared to all other islands of the Lagoon, is the possibility to reach it by car, avoiding problems and costs of car-parking either in Mestre (mainland) or at the Tronchetto (car-park). The hotel has 42 rooms on three floors connected by lift. The rooms nearly all have classical-style furnishings, are luminous, some with a small balcony and all with bathroom, shower, air conditioning, telephone with direct outside line, satellite TV, and a wireless internet connection. There is an internet point in the Hall. The Buffet breakfast is open from 7,00 to 10,00 a.M. In the breakfast room on the ground floor, while the restaurant is only open for organised groups. The hotel bar is open 24 hours a day. ... more   less
