A friend and I were driving cross country at the end of August and we had a cat with us so we needed to stay at pet-friendly accommodations. We had no problem anywhere until the Budget Saver. Coeur d' Alene is a very upscale lake resort area; we really enjoyed the town. We had very few options in Coeur D'Alene, but the local visitors magazine advertised the Budget Saver as a pet-friendly hotel. We checked in and stayed the night with no problems. At 8 a.m. the next morning a hotel "employee" started literally pounding on our door. When we opened it he pointed to our cat sitting up in the window. He was yelling that we needed to "pack and get out." When we asked why he said we couldn't have a cat in the room. We asked why their advertisements made it seem as though we could. He answered that he didn't care what their advertising said; that if we had an animal we would have been put at the rear of the hotel.

Whatever the conditions regarding Budget Saver's "pet-friendly" conditions, my complaint is the strong-arm, bar-bouncer-style of customer service we received. The Budget Saver is not upscale, but we paid close to $100 that night and were literally run off the property like criminals. If we were wrong, there were many other ways that situation could have been handled. This was completely ridiculous treatment. The management or whoever dealt with us knows nothing about customer service, nothing about being a good ambassador. I'll give them nothing but bad advertisement and my experience of the town is totally tainted. Stay at your own risk.

We were so pleasantly surprised when we checked into this hotel. Our room #110 was completely renovated - new carpet, new furniture, fresh paint, new tile floor in bathroom, new countertops & bathroom fixtures. This place was really clean and really quiet. The AC worked great and there were about 20 channels on the TV. A light continental breakfast was included in our rate of $39.95 plus tax.

The lady who owned the place was very friendly and very helpful. At her suggestion, we had dinner at the Iron Horse Bar & Grill on Sherman. It was great - the food was great and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed.

I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again. I give it an A++++++!

LODGING
Budget Saver Motel, 1519 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID, 83814, phone (---)
$75.20 with tax at seniors discount.
Room 109, N/S Queen, bottom floor. High traffic area located near stairs and pop machine.
Very clean and comfortable, reasonably spacious for budget motel. Includes Fridge. Microwave.
A/C worked well, and not as noisy as most.
TV good reception, with movie channel.
Friendly staff. Prompt check-in.
Free Breakfast Bar: 4 kinds of cereal, toast, bagel, muffin or donut, coffee, tea, juice. Would stay here again, but try a different room.
DINING
Moon Time, 1602 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID for dinner.
Neighborhood Pub style eatery, very popular with locals. Eclectic menu for both beer and food. Beer: Red Hook Sunrye; Special was Greek Lamb sandwich in toasted pita; Grilled pork soft taco with mango sauce.
$36 with tip. Really busy, very noisy, excellent waiter. We strongly recommend and would stop there again.
