The Modern is awesome! We stayed there for two nights in June on our way to Jackson Hole and had a great time. The decor is great, the staff was super friendly, the bar at the hotel is happening. One of the nights we were there the bar had live music on the patio. Great ambiance. The hotel itself is located in the Linen District and is just a very short walk (3 blocks) from downtown Boise. The Modern also just got two red cruiser bikes which we rented for $20/day - a little steep I thought but they were new and it was actually a great way to see Boise (the whole place is pretty flat and there is a great bike path that runs along the river).

“Hio CAN happen in Boise”

I groaned to myself as I followed the GPS instructions around the corner and saw the Modern Hotel sign a block away ... I had picked it nearly at random and out of desperation from Expedia the day before, and it looked like I was going to be in for a a single night in a run-down place.

My worries evaporated like water in 95-degree sunshine as I pulled into the parking lot ... the retro styling of the lobby furniture and understated hipness of the decor outside the bar had me eager to check in.

The room did not disappoint ... from the flat-screen TV on the wall, to the comfy, COMFY mattresses, to the amazing bathroom fixtures, I was incredibly pleased.

The location is great too -- quite close to the best activities and dining in downtown (the clerk recommended The Pie Hole for pizza, and I couldn't agree more).

The gratis continental breakfast the next day was fantastic. REAL croissant and pastry from a nearby French bakery; fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice ...

I stayed here 2 nights, midweek, and chose this hotel based on the reviews it received here on TA. I have to say, everyone was right! This is a cute, very unique, comfortable "travel lodge" style hotel...literally, this used to be a travel lodge that was totally revamped with exquisite attention to detal. If you are looking for something simple, but elegant, and high quality... then this is your place! If you are looking for room service, then it is not, however there are several great restaurants within walking distance and the staff is happy to offer recommendations. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows (there were 4 on my queen sized bed!) are to die for - it was all I could do not to stuff them into my luggage when I left : ) The bar attached has an amazing list of signature cocktails and a limited but well thought beer/wine selection. Michael (bartender and resident mixologist) was a joy to chat with. The continental breakfast (included) was fantastic as well - fresh pastries from a local french restaurant, great, high quality coffee, fresh juices, and yogurt/granola. I don't think I could have been more impressed with Boise in general, but in particular, the Modern Hotel. I would certainly stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone!

    • Liked — The attention to unique detail, and the comfortable bed!
    • Disliked — With everything being such high quality, I would have loved to see a food menu (room service).

From the minute we walked into the lobby, we were delighted. You've got to love the personal touches (pictures of the grandmothers), the sly humor (check out the hilarious bathroom gnomes) and keen attention to good, clean design. And that's just the lobby!
Better yet, our suite was seriously cool and I wish that I could transplant the bathroom into my own home. Really, everything was beautifully done. We were impressed.
Lastly, check out the lounge. We were there in the dead of winter and had fabulous service from the funny bartender...but I want to go back and enjoy drinks out on the patio.
If you are visiting Boise...staying here.

We live in Boise and had several friends coming in to town, and so for a vacation at home, we booked room 231 and loved it, it has wonderful light and a generous floor plan. The bed is amazing- it's a King and truth be told, we prefer a Queen, but who ever hears of a King in a hotel these days?!

The bathroom, I swear was bigger than the rooms we have been happy with in other places, so to think that we could both get ready at the same time was a dream!

I am not a "style at the price of comfort" kind of person, not that I don't like beauty and style-- I do, but it must be functional as well. And never once did my room sacrifice comfort for style. We didn't have use for the sleeper in the front room but having a well appointed suite was a boon! It was so nice to let my partner sleep while I went out, grabbed a cup of (good) coffee in the lobby, along with some fruit, the Sunday paper and a most delicious pastry (I've since learned they come from Boise's own local Le Cafe De Paris's bakery) came back, plopped on the firm but comfortable sofa, watched the TV (huge, and 2 of them in the room- what is luxury, except well planned extravagance?)

Finally, we have stayed in hotels all over the world (finding the best and the worst on this site) and it was a very reassuring feeling about our town, and this hotel, that two guys checking into a room was as normal as if it happens everyday- while it is becoming very politic to have 'same sex couple' policies, when you deal with the housekeeping staff and the front desk and the night clerk, well- everyone, and they all are as professional and, politely and appropriately disinterested in the sex of the guest instead focusing on our having the best time while we are there, was most gratifying.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The comprehensive look (high style) and feel (high comfort) in every decision
    • Disliked — the in room coffee maker... the flavor of the coffee was mediocre.
