So this is what you do with your old motel laying on the outskirts of downtown - you have fun remodeling it! Forget about knocking it down and putting up a boring lifeless "modern" hotel. Keep what you have and make the most of it!
I found this little number on Fly.com and grabbed it up for a song of a price. My king-sized bed was nesting in a smallish room that was a bit of a surprise but still delivered a good nights sleep. My washroom was rather sleek and more than I expected from a motel. Rain shower head in a rather ample shower room was fun, the sleek and long skin made for a fun bird bath-type of thingy to brush me teeth in while I tried to wake up. The Aveda amenities were appreciated, too. The wi-fi connection was slow but you can't have everything.
I went to the adjacent lounge at night to enjoy a glass of wine from a rather friendly staff and bellied up with a small crowd of funky urban professionals in this big-sky small-city kind of town. It was a nice surprise for me.
The lounge flipped into my breakfast destination the next morning. The bar top turned out to be a cold food buffet that offered yoghurt, granola, fruit, coffee and bagels for toasting. The coffee was strong and plentiful for the small group of travelers that were waking up to another day in this cool little city. The only thing that I had wanted was hot oatmeal. Maybe next time it will be on the buffet.
I think everyone that enjoys an original experience should give this property a spin once. It was refreshing to see how the space was used to be a motel where the Jetson's would stay.
