We live in Boise and had several friends coming in to town, and so for a vacation at home, we booked room 231 and loved it, it has wonderful light and a generous floor plan. The bed is amazing- it's a King and truth be told, we prefer a Queen, but who ever hears of a King in a hotel these days?!

The bathroom, I swear was bigger than the rooms we have been happy with in other places, so to think that we could both get ready at the same time was a dream!

I am not a "style at the price of comfort" kind of person, not that I don't like beauty and style-- I do, but it must be functional as well. And never once did my room sacrifice comfort for style. We didn't have use for the sleeper in the front room but having a well appointed suite was a boon! It was so nice to let my partner sleep while I went out, grabbed a cup of (good) coffee in the lobby, along with some fruit, the Sunday paper and a most delicious pastry (I've since learned they come from Boise's own local Le Cafe De Paris's bakery) came back, plopped on the firm but comfortable sofa, watched the TV (huge, and 2 of them in the room- what is luxury, except well planned extravagance?)

Finally, we have stayed in hotels all over the world (finding the best and the worst on this site) and it was a very reassuring feeling about our town, and this hotel, that two guys checking into a room was as normal as if it happens everyday- while it is becoming very politic to have 'same sex couple' policies, when you deal with the housekeeping staff and the front desk and the night clerk, well- everyone, and they all are as professional and, politely and appropriately disinterested in the sex of the guest instead focusing on our having the best time while we are there, was most gratifying.

    • Liked — The comprehensive look (high style) and feel (high comfort) in every decision
    • Disliked — the in room coffee maker... the flavor of the coffee was mediocre.

I love to the discover the unique properties (just say no to chain names) that reflect the local atmosphere and The Modern was such a delight to experience. The lobby was inviting and comfortable. The staff was incredibly personable and very informative. The rate for the room was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable and cozy with plenty of wonderful pillows. The complimentary Wi-Fi was very useful. The flat screen HDTV was incredible as was having an iPod docking station bedside. The huge oversized showers (and the towels-I LOVED the huge towels) were very nice as were the AVEDA products. The rooms and property were very clean and well maintained. I am looking forward to staying there again when the weather is warm so that I can enjoy the unique courtyard. The Bar was beautifully crafted with excellent service and selection. The Modern is also located within walking distance to the best nightlife that Boise has to offer-what a great place to stay.

The Modern is the only place to stay in Boise. The comfortable chic rooms offer all a hotel room requires:; cozy beds, custom decor, huge showers and soundproof walls. The hotel is in easy walking distance of
downtown Boise but has its own cool bar adjoining the lobby. This is Boise at its bestl.

“Tiny rooms at outrageous prices”

I'm not sure what the other reviewers think is a "modest" price for a room like those offered at this Hotel. But we were charged $180 for the TINIEST US hotel room we've ever seen (supposedly their "King Suite") There was barely room on the floor by the bed to set our luggage. The overhaul of the old Travelodge is marginal at best. The outside still looks like a cheap sleaze hotel. The rooms are minimally-decorated (not that there is any room to decorate). The bathroom had no counters, so plan on using the floor for any toiletries. The shower was very large (no bathtub), but the ceiling shower fixture didn't provide much water pressure or volume. They have about a half-dozen parking spots in front, which were always full when we were there. So we had to park in an empty lot adjacent to the hotel, and ended up getting a $25 parking ticket. Here are the positives: The staff was friendly (although they refused to do anything about the parking ticket). The flat-screen TV was very nice (although you could probably buy your own for the price of these rooms). Another plus: they have a great bartender at the hotel bar (plan on premium drink prices, of course). So this whole one-night excursion in a plain (albeit modernized), tiny room cost over $200. For that price, we could have easily gotten a large luxury suite with valet parking in any of several other fine hotels in Boise (we frequent many wonderful higher and lower priced hotels in town). The "modern" decorating at the Modern does not come close to justifying their outrageous prices. These are $60 rooms at best.

My husband and I visited Boise in late October. We stayed in The Modern because some friends of ours recommended the place to us. We were delighted to find such a gem within the city center. We found it to be convenient to access great restaurants, museums, shopping and the river walk. We experienced great service and they pay attention to all details, not only in the rooms but also in the bar. The staff was very helpful and their advise in restaurants was very valuable. Our room had al the amenties we could dream about: Flat screen TV, a wet bar with a stocked mini bar (they even had Idaho Spuds! For those who do not know what is an Idaho Spud, it is a chocolate covered marsmallow). Our bathroom was idyllic, spacious, simple... Our bed was also perfect! I would recommend this place to everybody visiting Boise for business or pleasure. Two thumbs up!
