“Shivered the night away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2007

We had their AAA quoted rate of $109.95 king room and spent the night shivering under blankets because all the thermostat would provide was very cool air. Had stayed here several years ago and don't remember any problem like this. The room was clean and bed comfortable but....being cold is the pits.
The breakfast room is lavishly decorated (as is the whole property) but as far as much to eat, we've had lots more variety at Comfort Suites/Fairfield Inns, etc.
At check out time, our bill started at $119.95...Whoa there!; they did find the paper that was signed the evening before initialing the $109.95 quote...what were they trying to do? My husband questioned the cold air problem and all the desk clerk would say was something about having that problem a lot. And then, to add insult to injury, we "got" to contribute to the Auditorium Fund that some people of Boise feel is needed!! We'll never use that place but guess most city fathers feel they can stick it to travelers and what can they do about it.
After getting home, a call was placed to corporate office and Bingo!! we were given the head guy; he offered a "coupon" to be used within a year, the next time we're in Boise. Ha! we'll never stay at that place again.

Had stayed at the Ameritel in 2002, it was beautiful. Was shocked at how run down and dirty it was. We had to change rooms to get one with clean sheets, finally found clean sheets on the third room. Hate complaining but slept in sheets were too much. They were very polite when we showed them the slept in sheets and were leaving, bent over backwards, then when the next room had the same problem they upgraded us to a suite, we really could have cared less, just wanted a clean room. We stay at the Ameitel in Bend Oregon all the time, it is immaculate and beautiful, hopefully the management will keep on top of it. Boise Spectrum needs new management.

First I'll give the good: The room was clean and quite. We had the 100$ double queen room. We had a microwave, fridge, coffee pot and built in blow dryer. All these things were nice.
However, the room was really small for that kind of money. My husband I seemed to always be bumping into one another and in each other's way.

2) We loved being right next to the mall and lots of good restaurants.

Now 2 things: 1) The jacuzzi and pool had WAY to many chemicals in it. The whole family had slight skin irritations that looked like a sunburn (We were there in February so we weren't outside). And our eyes got really red. And the smell was really strong.
2) We had to go up and down from floor to floor looking for a coke machine that worked. One machine didn't work at all and another was out of some things. My husband told the girl at the desk and all she could do about it was chuckle and say, "Oh, yeah they (the machines) are like that sometimes."

One last good thing, the maids didn't try to get in our room even though we had the privacy sign on the door. (We've actually had maids use their keys and let themselves in even though we were still in bed!!)

Excellent Hotel, Friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, what else can I say... You will be pleasently surprised by this small chain in the Northwest. The Spectrum is truly a great place to stay with a staff you will probably know by name when you leave due to their friendly and helpful nature.
