Took the family to the Okefenokee last week for a few days of sight seeing and fun. I ate there a couple of years ago. This time we decided to also stay in one of their rooms upstairs. The rooms are nice, simple set up of a bed, bath, TV, and desk (free WiFi). The beds were very comfotable. We asked for a pullout for the kid's room and it was there upon arrival. Coffee maker, fridge and microwave are in sitting area down the hall. Only 4 rooms, so can feel like you have the place to yourself - which we did one night as we had 2 rooms and others were empty. The second night, all 4 rooms were full. in addition to coffee, continental breakfast, there is a nice selection of DVDs. The WiFi is free and fast. Beats staying at one of the chain motor-hotels.
If you stay over, eat in the restuarant at least one night. The food was great. We started with mussels steamed in garlic and Guiness, warmed brie with fruit, and a tapas platter. For entrees we had duck breast, salmon, crab cakes, pasta with seafood. All of the dishes were well prepared, adequate size, seasoned appropiately. The duck and the crab cakes were the big hits. Nice wine selection and the owner / host knows his parings very well. Also has a basic bar, though they do have a nice selection of single malt scotches. We were about the last dinners that evening so the chef came out at chatted about food with us for a while. Nice touch.
The price is above average for south Georgia, but the food is well above average for the region - so you get waht you pay for. Likely the best food south of Savannah. It was nice staying there as we could eat and drink to our hearts content then go upstairs for bed, rather than having to drive. Also, we sent to kids to their room while we stayed in the restuarant for a night cap. We will be back again - maybe as a stop over on our next roadtrip to Florida.
There are only 4 rooms. Our two were fine.
