“A tad disappointed.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We have been to Sundae Cafe many times and always enjoyed our food very much and usually enjoyed good service. While in Tybee last week, we ate here twice. The first was for dinner and the service was good, not great. Also, the seafood bisque, something I always order at Sundae, was not up to par. A little bland and not the usual to-die-for experience! At lunch on Friday we found, as some other posters have mentioned that it's seat yourself at lunch now, something we found out after standing and being ignored for 10 minutes. The lunch itself was very disappointing: the grouper was overcooked, the hushpuppies had definitely been around for a while and were thoroughly nuked before serving, making them tough and rubbery-not good at all. The worst was the cheese grits, the grits were not seasoned with anything, were tasteless, and were barely warm, not warm enough to melt the sparse sprinkling of cheese on top. I hope this is not an indication of things to come at this place we have loved for years. We were told by our server that the owners are opening a sports bar on Tybee this spring. I hope they don't spread themselves too thin.

“Great Fish Taco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The shabby appearance of the place had me a little worried. Our waiter suggested the fish tacos and he was spot on. Best fish taco (although more like a burrito with a flour tortilla) I have ever eaten. Made with blackened grouper. I am a picky fish eater and was extremely satisfied. I liked it so much I wanted to eat it all, but it was too much food.

“Delicious dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We had dinner at this restaurant on Saturday and really enjoyed our meals. The steak and pasta were delicious. We were celebrating the holidays and this was a great place to do so. Our waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. The only slight disappointment was the new menu. It did not include too many seafood options which we had seen online and were hoping to try. Maybe it was due to the season. Overall if you want some "fine" dining on Tybee and do not want to drive to Savannah, this is it.

“2 hour lunch ! Super slow service !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

First, we were asked how many in our party so we sat on bench waiting to be seated. Well they never came back so I asked and well it is a seat your self service! So there went 20 min! Then we sat at a dirty table and ordered! Forty five min. later our lunch arrived. It was delicious but not worth the wait and slow service!

“Hidden Gem! Great food and great value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We always ask a local where they would get a meal and are rarely disappointed. This was certainly true for Sundae Cafe. The Docent at the Tybee Island Lighthouse suggested Sundae Cafe. It is not much to look at from the outside, just a glass front in a small strip mall, but don't let that detour you. Pass through the door and you are met by a friendly and attentive staff in a busy dining room. We ordered a seared tuna salad and crab cakes. What treats! Fresh, flavorful, and generous describe our meals. We enjoyed our visit and were surprised at the check, perhaps the most reasonable that we had seen in days.
