We have enjoyed B&B stays in the U.S. (both east and west coasts, and Great Lakes regions) and in Canada, but this was the best overall experience of the bunch! Our hosts, Lloyd and Cathy, were very knowledgeable and most gracious, and their attention to even the smallest details made us feel instantly welcome.
We traveled specifically to tour Savannah and to enjoy a dinner at Paula Deen's Restaurant, which we did; but the advantage of touring and having access to the beach and island amenities made the Tybee Island in a refreshing and fortuitous choice. Imagine our surprise when we realized that our room selection (The Mermaid Room) was featured in Paula Deen's Magaine along with a great review of the Inn!
The Inn is neatly tucked away amid live oaks covered with Spanish Moss and palmettos, with a welcoming garden area surrounding the house (they have a wonderful, award winning gardener), and outside porches that shout: "Come and visit here for a while!"
Our room was clean and comfotable, with a private porch that saw us there a lot.
Celeste, the resident chef (We love ya, baby!) provided original and delicious breakfasts and there was always a surprise in the pantry area when we returned in the evening after a tough day of touring. Lloyd also stocked the fridge with plenty of "help yourself" ice cream and topping selections, just in case......
Our hosts were also most helpful with recommendations for local restaurants, and the seafood there was excellent.
We were traveling for fun, and we got more than we bargained for. After checking the available accommodations in Savannah and on Tybee Island remotely via the internet, we took an educated chance and selected this wonderful little place. And after seeing some of the other selections first hand once we got there, we were sure glad that we chose what we did. The price was a bit higher, but considering the excellent breakfast and evening snacks, that alone brings pricing for value into line.
But the overarching value for us was feeling like family visiting distant cousins. We enjoyed privacy when we wanted, and warm conversation at just the right times.
If you select another location than the Tybee Island Inn, you will flat be missing out!
