This was the only time we were disappointed on our Spring Break trip with our son. We were initially excited to find a "cheap room" on Tybee Island. Our expectations were low, but we expected the place to be reasonably well maintained.
The first clue is when we found the front desk nearly abandoned. I had shout to the back before anyone came out to give us a room assignment. This was after my wife had rung the bell. The place smelled damp and moldy and they extended from the front desk all the way to our room.
Bare and basic we could tolerate, but the room was quite uncomfortably warm when we opened the door and the aroma was less than inviting. The room was also quite dingy and dark. There was no remote for the tv in the room. There was also an inventory of items to be left in the room. My wife suggest that we were at the wrong end of the island. I couldn't agree more.
We escaped into the night for a quick bite of dinner then returned to the room. I think the only reason we slept at all was all the walking we did in Savannah the day before. As we packed our bags, it became evident that not everything in the room was ours. There were numerous wrappers for items we did not bring into room. Clearly the staff did not clean thoroughly after the previous guests. We checked out as quickly as we could and we were glad to be gone.
