I stayed at the Motel 6 (Suwanee) going to Atlanta and the Howard Johnson in Commerce coming back from Atlanta. I paid the exact same price ($47 tax, tag and title) for both places, but they couldn't have been more different had they been called "night" and "day". (You can see my posting on the Howard Johnson Commerce under that name.) The night clerk who checked me in was fairly pleasant, and put me in a room on the second floor. I was very uneasy when I realized that not one but BOTH security doors that lead to my room were completely unlocked (AT ONE IN THE MORNING!), in fact on the downstairs door the security bar had been taped open with duct tape, presumably by management, since they told me about it! The room was pretty scruffy, but everything worked alright, though I had a stranger who knocked on my door round about 3 am, scaring me out of sleep. I saw the managers at the desk in the morning, and they were very cordial.
My REAL beef came 10 hours later at my next hotel when I realized that I'd left my toiletries bag on the clothes rail in the room at Motel 6. I called the Motel 6 back, frantic (the dopbag contained some antique diamond and platinum jewelry as well as my medication.though I wasn't fool enough to announce that to the surly woman who answered the phone at the front desk. I told her that I thought I'd left my case in the room. She told me nothing was turned in and I would have to call the manager back the next morning. I tried to impress on her how important it was that I find the bag and asked if she could check the room. That's when she out and out lied and said that 'an elderly man checked in there at 6 pm and she wasn't about to disturb him" I asked her to put me through to the room so I could ask directly and she flat out refused and hung up on me!! I was sooo furious! Early the next morning I drove back to the hotel, went back up the stairs (everything was completely unsecured!) and recovered it...right in the unoccupied room where it had been left. I would have reported it to management but didn't want to get the maid who let me in in trouble.
go to Commerce a few miles down the road and try the Howard Johnson; same price, WORLD of difference...
