I took my girlfriend to see Taken 2 (her choice) a few weeks ago. We weren't sure exactly what to expect. There's a tight group of chair/tray combinations up front and a smaller section of them in back, but right in the middle is where you'll want to be. Lots of leg room and the staff doesn't have to shimmy around people to get to you. Taken 2 had been out a bit so we got quality seats no problem; for new releases, Movie Tavern's 40 minute early recommendation might be dead on. It just depends on the film and the time. The seats recline a ton, are very comfortable and provide plenty of arm space, even for a great big fat person like myself.
Another cool thing about Movie Tavern is that it's a "Choose Your Own Experience" kind of thing. Do you want to eat a quality meal and then see a movie? Do you want to enjoy a tasty burger as the flick is playing? How about just showing up for a movie and grabbing a milkshake to enjoy for the second half? Hell, you can just watch a movie, no food or anything! It's the same price as a theater anyways, maybe a tad less. We ate during the film, which felt less like we were at the movies, paying unwavering attention to the screen and coveting the pin-drop silence, and more just having fun. I probably wouldn't want this effect during a stirring drama or gripping documentary...but I won't know until I try!
The aforementioned quality meal was a huge Avocado & Jalapeno Chicken Club for my girl and the Kobe Sliders for me. My girl said she really enjoyed the club. My sliders were ACTUALLY sliders (not mini burgers as I suspected they would be) and they were super juicy. We both got fries and were really impressed by those, too. I don't order fast food fries anymore outside of Five Guys and rarely in restaurants, but these were worth it. The whole meal was worth it. Despite it being moderately pricey like an Applebee's, Longhorn, O'Charley's, etc., I definitely felt I got my money's worth.
Now the place was pretty understaffed and, though everyone was very, very nice, service did suffer because of it. Our drinks to quite a while to be refilled and two calls to the waitress using the little button on the tray went unanswered. The place was relatively clean, but still had a movie theater, watch-where-you-step vibe to it. I was able to overlook these things, but some others who expect prompt service and supreme cleanliness at a theater would definitely be turned off. Overall though, I had fun, the food rocked, the movie was great and everyone was really nice. Would, and will, go back again.
