“A dump with great location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

This place is dilapidated, shabby, dark, unclean, lacking in maintenance, or any other amenity! The Inn needs to be totally renovated and updated. Even with the Travelzoo offer of $79 rate, it was awful. Thin, old, shabby towels and bedding, etc. My dark, dingy room was right on top of the main air-conditioning unit and it hummed all night. When I called and asked about it, the desk attendant said it was "normal." Yes, it is right at the "mountain", but pay extra to stay at the Evergreen Marriott Resort, which is also IN the park.

We recently decided to go to the annual Daisy Festival on the Stone Mountain Park grounds, and stay overnight at the Marriott hotel iside the park. We reserved a second night at the hotel in order to spend the second day in the Stone Mountain Park, which we had not visited in years. The hotel is a little old fashioned, but the rooms are huge, the setting is beautiful, and the price is reasonable. The staff is pleasant and helpful, but the positives pretty much end there. For a Marriott, there are just too many other things wrong.

First, there is no elevator access to second floor rooms. If you have issues with stairs, apparently you are supposed to know to request a first floor room when you make reservations

Second, the entire charge for our two night stay was billed to our debit card on day one, along with an extra added charge of roughly $50. When we inquired, we were advised that the $50 charge was routine and would be removed later. The next day, the two day room charge was removed, but the roughly $50 charge remained until the final bill was processed after we checked out.

Third, the advertised on-site hotel restaurant was not open for lunch or dinner, necessitating either a difficult drive to restaurants outside of the park, or a trip in-park to a separate Marriott resort facility, which had only a rather pricey buffet.

Fourth, the hotel does not offer free wireless interent access. There is actually a separate $12 per day charge for hotel guests to access the internet.

Fifth, the hotel offered a two day for the price of one day park admission ticket, which we decided to take advantage of when we checked out. While navigating through the heavy Daisy Festival traffic, we were advised by park employees that the main park attractions were actually closed. When we returned to the hotel for a refund of the ticket charges, the hotel staff was clearly not aware, and quickly removed the admission ticket charges. It was also very unclear on the hotel website that the major park attractions were closed during our entire stay.

Other less serious annoyances included a non-refundable $10 gate admission to enter the park grounds to reach the hotel, a small television with poor reception, and even mismatched bath towels.

The staff were actually very nice, helpful, and apologetic while dealing with things they clearly do not have any control over. That was fortunate, because Marriott did not respond to two emails we sent advising them of our issues.

It's really not a bad hotel, but if you go, verify everything in advance, including basic things you normally take for granted. .

Room Tip: There is no elevator. If stairs are an issue, request a first floor room. Verify that the park attra...

Worth paying the extra for the location, easy to return to the hotel pool and relax.
The room was huge a few things needed maintenance, the patio doors were screwed shut so we couldn't open them, the wardrobe door wouldn't slide open, and no Internet in the room you had to go into the lobby.
Breakfast was just okay, our rate included breakfast and a 2 day park pass, we stayed fri sat but the park attractions were closed Friday, we should have been told this when booking the package.
Breakfast was self service buffet, the waitress brought coffee, I was given a slip to sign for $29 for breakfast even though it was included, the waitress said it was already paid just to sign it so I did, I never thought to put a tip on there, the next morning a bright red stamp stating gratuities not included was stamped right where I had to sign, obviously because I had not left a tip the previous day, they were only bringing coffee it may as well been self served with everything else.

Room Tip: Great location.

The view was breath taking from the balcony. The balcony was large and so were the rooms and with that southern flavor throughout. We were right across from the parks most beautiful carving and the price was a nice surprise. Never left the park because the food at the hotel and at the Commons was very good.

Room Tip: Rooms toward the back of the hotel allow a better view or at least a partial of the most beautiful c...

The room is huge. It was perfect for us traveling with a young child and an infant. We had PLENTY of room for the stroller, pack n play, portable high chair, and all the baby gear we brought along. Nice view of the mountain, lots of cool trails to walk. Very convenient to all of the park attractions. My daughter loved the sky lift, and all of the other Stone Mountain park activities that were right across the street. Nice big pool, and if you want, you can go to the sister property up the road for the indoor pool and hot tub. Overall, great stay. But, if you are one of those who flips out over older furniture, some minor paint chips, or little scuffs here and there, than you little super zoom camera just might have a fit at this place. But if you're sensible, you will love it here! It is older, but VERY clean, For the price, you cant beat it!

We chose to stay here because it is within the park so we could walk to Stone Mountain, the plantation and the laser show and relax in our room in between. Not only was it perfect for this reason but it was enjoyable in and of itself. Our room was large and comfortable and we enjoyed our private patio complete with rocking chairs. The pool and patios/balconies are in a lovely large courtyard of mature trees and this setting was very relaxing after a busy day of lots of walking. I left off one star because the hotel is a little dated but was well maintained and clean. The desk also provides a pass for the car and a list of local restaurants so you can easily exit and return if you choose to dine outside the park, as we did. The staff was very friendly and every employee we encountered made a point to say hello. It was a very nice stay and we would return.

Room was one of the small rooms. Half the size of the rooms I stayed in previous years. Looked ok but not after we looked closer. Reported to manager and it was corrected. Should not have had to deal with an unclean room.
