Description: The Basket Bakery originally began as a wholesale bakery with a small additional luncheon room, operated by the Frieses, a German couple. As the bakery’s customers grew, so did the popularity of Hilde's extraordinary cooking. Now in its third location, The Village Corner German Restaurant includes a traditional style German tavern, a European bakery and a cafe style dining room that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. A traditional German menu contains potato pancakes, Black Forest ham and Weiner Schnitzel among other selections. Our artistic and decorative bakery cakes are worthy of any special occasion. In addition The Village Corner boasts a wonderful banquet room that facilitates weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, parties and much more.

“Enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

My husband, three adult children, and I were in the area for the day and wanted to eat dinner before we left. We did an internet search for local restaurants and saw there were a lot of chains, but we really wanted something different. I saw this restaurant listed and my son-in-law, who has spent time in Germany, quickly suggested we eat here. The daughters weren't quite so enthusiastic, but we decided to try it anyway. We arrived shortly after 5:00 and were seated almost immediately. At first, it seemed like the service might be a little slow, but once our waiter took our drink order, he was very prompt in taking our food order and very helpful in suggesting various dishes. The food was delicious. My husband and I had the sausage platter for two and we brought home enough leftovers for another meal. Will definitely eat here again. As we were leaving, there were many people waiting for a table, so apparently a lot of people are fans of the restaurant. We were glad we had arrived early.

“Great food and atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

This is the 1st stop my father makes on his way from the airport to visit us in Atlanta each year. Great apple bread! Their food is delicious and the atmosphere is cozy and authentic!

“Adventure in a food desert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We brought a large party to the Village Corner and were not disappointed. Tasty wursts, sharp and flavorful, and just the right amount of doughiness to the spaetzle. They also have a terrific selection of real German beer on tap.

The Stone Mountain area isn't exactly a foodie paradise, so head here if you want to have something other than fast food or Ruby Tuesday/Applebee's/Outback types.

“Really good German food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Since I grew up in a German family environment, it's hard to lose the childhood memories of food. The Village Corner has a great selection of basic German food -- pork, beef and sausage. And a wonderful selection of pastries. Good selection of draft beer in very large servings.

Very pleasant atmosphere; nice waitress, very helpful.

I was a little annoyed at the extra charges (sharing a meal) and up charge for German potato salad. That's actually what I was expecting in the first place.

Potato salad isn't as good as my grandmother's (surprise!), and a little too vinegary. But it was still tasty. Wiener Schnitzel was good and fixed well. Apple strudel was definitely a keeper.

It's a very pleasant and quiet place. Easy to talk and no real outside interruptions.

“We did it, beat the crowd.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We hadn't celebrated New Years Eve in several years and decided to go out early. We beat the crowd by one meal and had a fantastic night, well, early evening out. We met New Years Eve 1958.
