“Angels in the campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

While we were at the campground our cat got out of the motorhome. We had to go home after searching for 3 days. The staff kept looking and 7 days later we got the call to come get our cat. I can't thank Dan, Erica and Mark enough for their kind hearts. We camped on the lake and it would have been heavenly if we had not spent all our time searching for our cat. Thank you, Erica Vanesse, Mark Terlep and manager Dan Hollaway.

Nice large clean campground . Friendly staff, helped us find our location spot. Nice restrooms with laundry facilities. Great spots for larger rigs with tow rigs. Had a nice pull thru right along the lake. They have a store with a large selection, for RV's. Enjoyed a nice evening by the lake. Also dog friendly place. Would love to come back durning the summer months.

There are several loops here. You are not all squashed up on top of one another as can sometimes be the case. Nice big grills with propane tanks ate available at looks like every campsite. Nice ones. There are small "patios" where the grills are. Well kept up. Trash pickup is pretty much all day. Curb service. Just put your bag at the curb and it will magically vanish. With such scrupulous attention, the whole campground is very clean. I can't speak for the gentlemen, but the ladies room was heated to a comfortable temperature. It is large, clean, has true handicapped toilet and shower facilities in good shape, AND they even pay attention to small but appreciated decor details! I have never been to a state-run park campground that has bathroom decor! The pool seems nice, and I noticed it has a lift so that the differently abled can enjoy the pool when it is open. There is a sandy vollyball court, horseshoes, and laundry facilities as well as a nice kiddie playground. The actual camp sites are hard gravel (not all loose stuff) and relatively flat. There is some slope, but nothing major. BIG rigs seemed to get in easy, although all see to be back-in. There are shady sites, and very open spots. I was in 145 and if I were camping in July without airconditioning, it would be a trial because there is no shade there. However many sites were shaded. There is a large semi-enclosed pavillion where groups and park events are held, safe from rain and strong winds. There is a great fire place (as in huge), and a community tv (really big). All staff are very courteous and helpful. To enter the campground go to the back park entrance. The exit would be 8 or 9. Wifi and cable are provided. Wifi is somewhat wimpy. You can check emails and maybe drop in on FB, but they don't have enough umph to stream video. The pavillion is certainly a great benefit in winter for large groups. (Handled our 100 or soo just fine.). There are large and plentiful picnic tables inside. Only detraction here is no adjacent or convenient bathroom. You have to leave and go down to the campground bath facilities. It costs a little more than the local average, but the amenities make it comfortable and quite honestly it is pretty much the only campground in reasonable proximity to Atlanta. The park has lots of attractions: fireworks on Sat evenings, railroad, plantation, walk or take gondola to the top of the "mountain. (Geologically it is really a batholith.). There are other activities and interests throughout a very large and very spread-out park. They even have their own clubhouse and golf course. They appear to be improving a beach area for the summer. Looks like it will be nice when completed. Highly recommend. I would return. I will recommend it to others without reserve. (Local Walmart very close to back gate as well as fast food, etc.). The town of Stone Mountain is nice to browse and the shops are varied and cozy.

Scenic, safe level big rig sites in loops c and F for full hookup. Quiet, serene, peaceful in campground. In park plenty to do and see. Seasonal activities only on weekends now thru Christmas. Golf, museum, general store, and sky ride to top of mountain if u desire.

I came to Stone Mountain as a kid, and I never knew it had a campground. I had a long weekend from work, and my wife and I were looking for a place to camp and get away from Panama City. We wanted some scenery and something different, and we found Stone Mountain Campground. We had a great time! My 2 1/2 year old daughter had a great time too. We were close to the water, and the comfort station was not too far of a walk. They had a hayride and a pumpkin patch on our visit. The site had a grill, a campfire circle, and lots of trees. The general store was convenient for necessities, and remember that convenience is not always cheap. A shuttle was available for the park, and there was so much we didn't get to do, but we will go back. Police patrol the area to keep it sane, and it is a safe place. It was a great experience!

The campground is clean, sites are quite close together. We are staying in premium sites ( ours is 159 with a view of the lake) and that does get you full hook-ups and cable tv but the wifi is horrid. Ping download is .31. I realize I need to take responsibility for wifi(upgrading to 4G) and give up on campgrounds that advertise wifi.
