“Low Country Boil time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

A few years ago I was hankering for Low Country Boil (Frogmore Stew to my low country friends). I searched menus and found Blackwater Grill served it. We visit about once a year now. We stopped by last week when we were down on the Island. The decor hasn't changed in ages, and it's a bit off the beaten path, but worth the visit. I had a crab cake appetizer which was good but not great. Genie got a cup of the Seafood Gumbo. It uses a cajun roux, but is not nearly as good as the Gumbo at Frederica House. The Low Country Boil was wonderful as usual. A party of 20 came in ahead of us, but our server was attentive, and got our order in ahead of theirs. Good food, Good service.

“GrEAT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Been coming to ST Simons for 20 years and never ate here. Dinner was delish! The jambalaya was great as was the fresh shrimp. Collards and cheese grits were down home flavored. Yum yum.

“Favorite SSI eatery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Good food, friendly staff, reasonable prices, a nice place to eat. You can get fresh shrimp cooked three ways, and there are always fresh seafood items available. We usually go there several times when in St Simons Island.

Went there after great reading a TV food review. I only had 2 appys but both were outstanding- low country crab cake and also shrimp and grits. I will be back!

“Overpriced for what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

Stayed on St. Simon's for a week and ate here one night. Main dish was decent, I had jambalaya which was about two pounds of rice and a few pieces of sausage and shrimp, not what you'd expect for $18. The waitress kept telling us how spicy it was..... switch salty for spicy and she would have nailed it. Vegetables were frozen, not fresh. My Brussels sprouts were bland even though they prepared them with bacon drippings.

Overall not bad but definitely not worth going back again. Service was good, food was okay and the place is dated.
