“Fun, cozy place to get great pizza on St. Simons!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Sal's is tiny, but the experience is fun and the atmosphere relaxed. The owner (Sal) cooks the pizzas right in front of you if you're lucky enough to sit at the bar, where there are only about 10 spots. The pizza is excellent. (Tossed) Salad, so-so. There are about 6 beers on the menu with many more wines and a well-stocked bar. My wife and I visited on a Wed. night and were seated after about 5 minutes. We were lucky, though. All of the larger parties waited a lot longer, and we were initially told it'd be an hour before they got to us. It's loud and can be cramped, but if you like to socialize and have a good time this is a great choice for exceptional NY style pizza. Well worth a visit!

“Great Family Resturant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We went to Sal's on Saturday evening around 8:30. We figured the food was good because people were sitting out in the cold eating thier food. We anticipated a wait because of comments we read online. However, we were immediately seated and actually offered a choice of a table or the bar. We chose to sit at the bar and watch our food being cooked to order in a big brick oven. We ordered a pizza and a glass of wine and sat back and had a wonderful time chating with Sal and members of his staff in this cozy resturant. We certainly were made to feel welcome from the time we arrived the the time we left. The pizza was great! I am very picky when it comes to pizza and this one passed with flying colors. I would recommend it to everyone. For that matter, I did recommend it to others I met this past weekend!

“Food good enough to sit outside in the cold!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We went to Sal's on a Friday afternoon at 12:30. It was cool outside, in the low 50's. The restaurant was so crowded that we had to sit outside or wait for a table inside. We sat outside and it was worth bearing the cold to eat Sal's pizza. The staff was great, the inside looked really neat and cozy, and the food was OUTSTANDING! Would love to go back the next time we are on St. Simons Island.

“Good Italian Food/Pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

To all readers, our reviews are (always) provided based on our (particular) experience & tastes and are (never) intended to persuade/dissuade anyone towards/away from a specific business, they merely represent our opinions.
After seeing Sal's on Trip Advisor (TA) we and another couple ventured the 50+ minutes drive (North) to give it a try, all were not disappointed with the selection.
Taking tips from other (TA) members, we arrived (early) between 5:30 - 5:40 p.m., seating was (at that time) not a problem; by 6:00 p.m. seats were full and a line began to gather.
Sal's offers inside/outside dining, we chose inside due to chilly temps; however, many occupied the outside tables, a good sign the food is worth some discomforts.
The restaurant is "very cozy", a trifle bit tight in/around seating but well-appointed with colorful Italian decor & paintings along with signed celebrity black&whites.
Our waitress was (very) knowledgeable, pleasant and interacted nicely with all of us; she was very helpful in suggesting different options to suit our taste preferences.
The ladies ordered Chicken Marsala and the special, Egg Plant Rolotini (?). My friend & I their version of the Calzone, the "Salzone."
We all shared portions and I can (honestly) state that all choices were perfectly cooked, nicely presented and large. Sal's sauce is one of the better we've tasted, nicely spiced and piping hot, as was all the food served. The Salzones were large & loaded with cheese and pepperoni; the Salzone (normally) comes with just cheese but any (additional) toppings can be added for a cost. We didn't have pizza on this night but we saw many being served with various toppings, they all looked tasty and must have been by the way diners were going through them.
We did have a little wait between ordering and being served but the food was delicious, fresh & piping hot..........it was worth it as was the long drive.
Would we return or recommend Sal's to friends/relatives, yes and we (fully) intend to return for a try at their Pizza!

“Won't be let down”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Sal's has excellent pizza and other homemade Italian food. Can be quite crowded at time although if the weather is good they have outdoor seating available.
