Description: Halyards on St. Simons has been redefining Island Cuisine for 11 popular years. The Island's unrivaled see-and-be-seen dinner spot for locals who know and for coastal visitors who've heard that the Seared Tuna with a Plum Wine Reduction and the Prime N.Y. Strip with Soy Lime Butter will make your evening. That's not to say you should skip the Creamy Blue Crab Bisque or the nightly specials. The atmosphere is casually elegant(coozy lounge furniture in the courtyard and under the awning), the welcome warm (usually by name), the service crisp and attentive, the wine cellar vast (7 Wine Spectator Awards) and the comfortable bar hip and hopping. The menu is the brilliant handiwork of Chef/Owner Dave Snyder that changes seasonally and is bold, creative and gloriously rewarding. To be sure you're pleased, Dave roams the front of the house for comments when he's not out fishing for your dinner. As you would expect at a restaurant of Halyards' caliber, reservations are a good idea.

“Good food, well cooked, in an attractive restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

We were staying at The Cloister at Sea Island, and enjoyed the chance to get away and explore St Simon's Island. It IS a little strange to find such a good restaurant in a shopping mall, and we passed the turn-off several times before we accepted that we were actually in the right place, but the restaurant itself is very attractive. We had our sons with us, and they enjoy eating out, but I wouldn't take young children or any child who is at all fussy as the menu is short and quite grown-up. Having said that, it was all very good, and we all enjoyed it, particularly the youngest who had short ribs, which were succulent.

“Pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We were new to Saint Simons Island and several people recommended Halyards. The fact that is in a shopping mall-like setting was a bit of a concern. Once we entered, that concern vanished. We had reservations and were early, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was so friendly and on top of his game that we decided to eat right there at the bar. Food was well prepared. Service was top notch. We now know why so many locals eat there.

“Lovely Evening for our anniversary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

We celebrated at special event at Halyards last Saturday the 28th. A lot of local people go to Halyards for that reason because it is a reliable place to go to celebrate on our Island. It's where you will want to have a memorable occasion. The owner is very dedicated to his craft and it shows. When we arrived for our reservation, Dave (the owner) was out on the parking lot grilling tacos for the special appetizer that evening. He is an avid fisherman too, so the fresh catch is always a good bet. Our friends had the Pompano special but you could have also had the Cobia/ Pompano dish as their catch of the day. The catch of the day is grilled with onions/bacon/brussel sprouts/lemon and garlic. I had the Hanger Steak and my husband had the 7oz. filet. They were both very good. There are also extensive small plate/salad options too. I was surprised at the very lively bar scene. The bar was crowded with people ordering drinks and food. It looks like a nice place to go as a couple or a single. The reason I didn't give Halyards a 5 star rating was the noise. This was a Saturday night so maybe I should have given them some slack.

“first class dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

Excellent food, terrific service, contemporary facility. Overall a first-class dining experience. Just a bit pricey and not located close to resorts.

“Found This Gem on Trip Advisor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

Taking recommendations from Trip Advisor contributors sent us to Halyards. It did not disappoint. Our table was ready when we arrived. After we were seated we were greeted by a happy waitress who took our drink orders and quickly told us the specials.

Meatloaf bites and homemade chips for an appetizer? We tried it and though unusual, it was good. We also tried a fried green tomato and pimento salad. Another unusual choice that was also good.

The scallop special with mangoes was very good even though I do not care for seafood. As customers left the restaurant, the tables were quickly cleared, cleaned and reset. All workers were busy but quite pleasant. I liked it!
