“Unique and Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Went for dinner last Saturday night at about 7:30 PM. There was no wait and the service was fine. We have been here before and know that the ribs are their specialty. A half-rack of ribs will run you $15, but you can split the full-rack between two people for a better deal. The ribs are some of the best I have ever had. Always fall-off-the-bone cooked to perfection, and very meaty. They also had a DJ on this night who was spinning old vinyl rock-n-roll records, yes... Records!

“Where's the smoke?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Before I get started I just wat to say that I am a BBQ snob. I have had BBQ and made BBQ for a long long time. When I go to a new place I usually order the Pork. I look at Pork BBQ as the easiest meat to do well, and the hardest to screw up. Pork BBQ need three things. 1) cook it low and slow, this allows the fat to render properly and give the meat the proper texture. 2) Season the meat. 3) Expose the meat to smoke. There two steps add the flavor.

At Swallow at the Hollow the meat was cooked very well. It was moist and tender with the correct texture, but it had ZERO flavor. If this meat had been exposed to smoke it was only the cooks cigarette. No smokey flavor and no flavor from seasoning. Very dissapointing. Doubt that we'll be back.

“Still looking for good Bar-B-Que in the North Atlanta suburbs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

And this isn't it.

They have done a great job creating the atmosphere of a bar-b-que spot. You can smell the smoke in the parking lot, the inside is unfinished wood, with plywood floors. Unlike other reviewers, I found the servers to be quite friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a chopped pork sandwich and a side of potato salad. The potato salad was wonderful with red potatoes, sour cream, a hit of cracked black pepper. The sandwich is served on a Texas toast made from bread that obviously did not come from the average commercial bakery: very yeasty, slightly sweet, and almost overpowered the meat.

And then, the experience goes bad. The chopped pork was overdone. Good bar-b-que is supposed to be fall off the bone tender, but no mushy and unfortunately this pork was mushy. And the 3 sauces were nothing to get excited about. They serve a Carolina mustard, Kansas sweet and some kind of vinegar pepper sauce. I'm not a fan of mustard sauces, so I won't comment there. The Kansas sweet was a disappointment. It just didn't have enough flavor. And another reviewer described the pepper sauce well as red wine vinegar with some red pepper flakes thrown in.

It is expensive with a sandwich running close to $9 and a side close to $3. But the portions are huge. We would have been better off ordering 1 sandwich and 1 side between the two of us and splitting it.

My quest for good bar-b-que in the North Atlanta suburbs continues. Sigh!!!!

“Good home cooking, great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

The meats are smoked and not overly Spicey. Try the smoked turkey - great. The sides are all home made. The home baked bread is heaven. The only down side was that the service was a little slow. If you like quiet - get your food to go. It is loud in the Swallow.
