“Lovely lodgings and history/architecture lesson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

Family in Rome arranged for us to stay two nights in the Claremont House. Our "Yancy Room" would have lodged 4, with a tall double bed and a pull-out day-bed, and was spacious. It has its own bathroom, added onto the 1882 house in recent years. No, it isn't exactly "regulation," being down about 5 steps, though a small hallway, and with a low slant ceiling...but it works. Chris made an excellent host and breakfast chef, offering just the right amount of cordialness and not "hovering." We appreciated the use of the living room with all its vintage furniture, The unobtrusive signs around the rooms covering the history of this house and the Victorian architecture (including the huge safe in the main hall!) generally were an added bonus. We were the only guests at the time...which made it exceptionally quiet, but disappointing because I want this couple to make a go of the B&B. The only reason for not rating it "excellent" has to do with accessibility: if you require mobility accommodations, this might not be the place for you: grand stairs to the bedrooms, claw-foot tub converted to shower, and a bed high enough you might need a 2-step stool (provided!). But the ambiance and history beat any Holiday Inn!

Room Tip: Check out their website for photos of their rooms.

My 15 year old son and I were traveling all week on business and we know now to only stay at B&Bs as you are almost always going to have a great experience, well this trip every one of our expectations was exceeded! Just a beautiful house owned and run by a great couple. It stunned me when I looked up Tripadvisor for Rome GA and saw only the ususal name brand hotels on the top. How dissappointing that Claremont House is not on the top. Of courese lets keep the Claremont House our secret since not everyone can have the best or is smart enough to do a little extra work to find the best. On the house... the rooms were out of a Samuel Clemments book. I have stayed in Charleston and Savannah B&Bs, and not seen a house so well decorated and kept. CLEAN! COMFORTABLE! Perfect for the business, couple or family travler. The breakfast was 5 STAR. The service was outstanding and the history came alive. Don't waste your money on a ratty big name hotel. Our next visit we are already booked for the Claremont house and all at a very afordable rate $$$.

Room Tip: They are all great, as big as my den (you can't go wrong). We stayed in the Blue room. Next time...

I found the Claremont House Bed and Breakfast to be the best family owned and operated Bed and Breakfast in this part of Northwest Georgia / Rome, Georgia. I found the owner, Chris, to be very professional and caring. I will stay at this wonderful 1882 era Victorian House the next time I am in Rome, Georgia.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Yancey Room and the Elizabeth Room...both had alot of Victorian charm....

I would never stay any where else. Excellent location, wonderful breakfast with similar price to a boring hotel.

We were attending an event with our pet in Calhoun (about 30 minutes away), and thus debated whether or not to stay in Rome. We decided to book our stay at the cottage, and were fortunate enough to stay during the holidays. Chris did not hesitate to arrange an early breakfast for us during our stay. Breakfast was always delicious; fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, grits. The main house is beautifully decorated, and my daughter and I spend a great deal of timing just admiring the art, Christmas tree, rugs, furniture, etc. The cottage was spacious enough for a family of four. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped. While we did not do any cooking, the full-size fridge and allowed us to stock plenty snacks, drinks, and ice. It's a quick drive to downtown and other area attractions. The beauty of the home and attentiveness of hosts allowed for a very enjoyable stay. I hope to return sometime.

Room Tip: Cottage is highly recommended if you are traveling with children and/or pets. Worth the extra cost...

From the moment we stepped inside this most elegant mansion we felt transported to another era, one of pure elegance , grace and refinement. On entering the lovely foyer a grand staircase leads to perfectly and beautifully appointed "chambers". Ours was a magnificent room with fireplace and a grand king sized canopy bed, so comfortable and exquisitely dressed with a marvelous bed cover and linens as fine as I have ever seen. Everywhere throughout the room were charming touches ... books at the bedside, lace gloves on the mantle a gorgeous oriental rug on the polished hardwood floor. A door led to the comfortable bathroom, complete with clawfoot tub and windows covered with emerald green drapes...perhaps the kind used by Scarlett to make her dress in Gone With The Wind. Arriving during the Christmas season brought a most unexpected and perfectly delightful surprise... a stunningly beautiful Christmas tree decorated in period onnaments with sparkling lights in our bedroom !
Lest I fail to to mention the other decorations throughout the house, including a parlor adorned with its own enormous Christmas tree and grand dining room complete with a lovely crystal chandelier . With the feeling of being a welcomed and honored guest, Chris the host and owner treated us royally during our stay and in the morning presented a meal that was delicious and beautifully plated on the homes fine china. This experience was surely for us a Christmas dream come true!

We had a terrific stay at the Claremont House and enjoyed our stay in Rome. Nice, big room with claw-footed tub. We especially enjoyed the information about the house and old pictures.
