“Really fun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

Neat history, nice trails, great playground, although it can end up being an expensive day. After paying for parking and admission, it adds up. Check it out on the free admission days. I often park at Ft. mcAllister marina and run out to Savage Island (the campground and back) it ends up being a great four mile run with a beautiful view of the marsh. BRING BUG REPELLANT!

“cool for all ages, for about an hour. good pit spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

Pretty peice of American history. The fort is free to get into (each time i have been) and great place to watch sunset, see the inlets and see some old school war bunkers, underground barracks and cannons. Stairs and paths lead you between restored outdoor exhibits. Good place to bring school age children and for families in general- it will only take you about 45 min-1 hr. You can picnic here too if you want. Good reading is posted and plaques to tell you what is what. Kind of off beaten path so plan lunch or dinner close by- Fishtails bar and grill maybe? its a cool place too with a nice southern atmosphere and staff.

“Great place to Picnic, enjoy the river, and history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

We had a wonderful time picnicking, sitting in a swing near the river, and at the visitor's center. Our time was limited and we must go back to soak up the historic value. We plan to return as soon as possible.

“History must see.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

Where the civil war ended. After Fort McAllister was secured Sherman had completed the successful sweep of Georgia. Very nice museum. The history of the area is well documented as Henry Ford was instrumental in saving this important part of our civil war heritage.
