This Wingate facility is right off I-95 in Port Wentworth, so it is very convenient. SAV/HHH is close by and Savannah Bay Street is an easy drive, just take a left out the drive and you are on Rt.21 headed into town - 20 minutes to Bay Street.

We booked 6 nights with Orbitz in March, for an April stay. We confirmed a week ahead with the hotel to ensure we would receive a non-smoking Double room as booked. We were informed that there were no more non-smoking Doubles left. We were given a non-smoking King room.

Over the phone the staff seemed a bit distracted, but during our stay everyone was very pleasant. When we arrived we were shown to our room, an end room right by the stairwell. We weren't aware that there was a large conference room and that a meeting was taking place with loud amplified music, which could be heard through the walls and floor.

The room was OK, The furnishings were typical hotel style, but the bedspread was shabby and had burn holes so we didn't use it. The towels and bath supplies were adequate, but the glasses and cups weren't replaced so we ended up having to rinse out the ones we had. Care could have been taken to clean up the grime in the corners. The chamber maid banged on the door one morning asking if " you guys are leaving any time soon?" It was barely past 9:00 AM.

Given the lack of nearby restaurant choices, the breakfast buffet was OK but could be way improved. It needs to be less chaotic in there and better organized. They don't have NEARLY enough food items on hand for all the bus load crowds every morning. People constantly cut in line and elbowed others out of the way. We never got any eggs, the OJ always ran out, and the yogurts too. The Belgian waffle was tasty but the plastic cutlery is useless in trying to saw through it. Speaking of cutlery, someone staying at another Wingate mentioned the utensils stored end up so someone' s germy fingers are always grabbing the spoon or fork you may get next. We attest to that! Bring hand sanitizer!

It's really ideal for one night or so while you are on the road. If you stay there, you may be happier with on even-numbered room which faces the back and to avoid the conference room area, avoid the lower digit odd-numbered rooms. There is a handy laundry room on the 3rd floor by the stairwell, and a business center and small exercise room and hot tub on the main floor.

This hotel was a huge disappointment. We have stayed at other Wingates and had great stays. Staff was unfriendly, except for one young lady, and were more occupied with talking to each other or on the phone to friends. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but the bathroom shower was not cleaned properly and had mold growing on the wall. The blanket had spots on it as well. We had many problems with the complimentary breakfast. Warm milk, warm coffee, no serving utensils, broken serving items, staff never observed using sanitary gloves. One morning the gal setting up the breakfast was cleaning the windows and did not wash her hands before heading back to servicing the food items. Plus she removed trash that had piled up on top of the trash can since it was full and again I did not see her wash hands. Another morning, a cereal bowl was spotted with juice and had a hair in it. No ice water available one morning and when ask if any would be provided, the girl stated 'I am only a child' and that my husband was disrespecting her. Well , do your job! Housekeeping usually came about 8:30 in the morning, I felt that was too early. I spoke to one other couple before we checked out and they also agreed this was a poorly run hotel. They also were disappointed. It was very apparent staff had not been properly trained or supervised. We did meet with the Director of Sales and expressed our disappointment. When I booked our stay (from the road) I wanted to stay at the Wingate on the south side of 95 but they were fully booked . This hotel had almost no customers. I counted 7 cars one evening including ours, that was the most I saw. Possibly the word was out on this location. I also have contacted Wingate Hotels with my comments. The Sales Director did seem interested in our comments and appreciated our taking time to let them know. But we should not have had to complain. Attentive management would have prevented these problems.

My friends and I stayed at the Wingate - Port Wentworth in June for a weekend getaway/bachelorette party. The hotel is fairly new, but has a few issues that need attention.

Checking in was simple. The staff at the front desk were indifferent and inattentive. I went down to the front desk to report that the wall next to the bed had a small hole in it; the clerk just nodded her head and returned to her phone conversation.

Later that evening I went to the front desk to request extra towels and pillows. The front desk clerk (still on the phone) stated that they should arrive in about 20 minutes. An hour later, I called the front desk and requested them again, and they finally brought the extra pillows and towels.

The room itself was fairly clean. Except for the hole in the wall, there were no major issues in the room. The property itself was quiet. It is about a fifteen minute drive from the historic district, not too bad. We did visit the hot tub during our stay. We couldn't stay in the room with the hot tub long, because the chlorine smell was super strong. When we went back to the room, we were still smelling chlorine 2 hours later!

This wasn't the worst hotel stay I've ever had, but definitely not a memorable one. I probably won't stay at this hotel again.

“Poor service ”

Wingate Inn Port Wentworth

Jul 13, 2007

Breakfast was really a mess. Even early in the serving period there was very little food, empty dishes and litter on the buffet counter, no utensils, tables dirty, trashcans literally overflowing. Front desk staff was surly and slow. Would not recommend this hotel.

Stayed at this hotel on our way to Florida. Were originally booked into another local hotel and left due to the smell and cleanliness. Luckily we happened to walk across the parking lot to the Wingate.
This hotel was nothing but a breath of fresh air. The manager of the hotel and front desk staff were fantastic....actually the manager stayed up in the dining room half the night talking with us.
Will definitely stay here again when driving through Georgia. The rate was fantastic and to get a king size suite with tons of room for the price we did was great considering the hotel next door was $40.00 more and stunk of musty old cigarettes.
There was no pool for the kids but apparently that is in the works and should be there for our stay next year.
This is right off the interstate and very convenient

Thanks Wingate for a great night
