“Older Hotel, but Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We stayed at the Mountain Creek Inn during Callaway Garden's Hot Air Balloon Festival. The location of the hotel was great, and our kids loved the large pool. The hotel is older, but the staff was friendly. We had a package that included breakfast each morning at the Plant Room at the Inn. Restaurant seemed a little unorganized, with a long wait time for a table, and food was typical buffet. I recommend eating breakfast at Callaway's Country Kitchen about a mile up the road instead.

Room Tip: Rooms either overlook the gardens, the pool, or the parking lot so make a request for your view.

Took a weekend trip to Callaway Gardens. It's a short hour and a half drive from Atlanta and a beautiful place to visit.

The gardens are spectacular all times of year, Spring is spectacular. The butterfly house is exceptional. The vegetable garden just amazing (wish my back yard was as productive). They have two golf courses, played both. They are in very good shape, and are a good challenge and pleasant to play.

The rental houses are great, we had a four bedroom one that was very comfortable and nicely decorated.

We were married at their beautiful chapel 23 years ago. Nice to come back, and worth a visit.

I had fond memories of visiting Callaway Gardens resort when I was growing up. A few us of planned a girls weekend and made reservations at Mountain Creek Inn (formerly the Holiday Inn). For $140+ a night I was expecting a lot more. Rooms were outdated. White walls and no artwork. I killed several bugs in the room while I was there. A/C didn't work well - A/C vent dripped water onto the carpet in the bathroom (yes, carpet in the bathroom) to the point it was soggy. Can just imagine the mold under the carpet. Seafood buffet was $29/pp -- wasn't worth it. I was very disappointed in the hotel.

Room Tip: They offer adjoining rooms which was nice.

We just returned from a stay at Mountain Creek Inn. We had no problems with service or staff. My main complaint was that our room and the contents-beds, sheets, towels, carpet-felt cold and damp the entire time. With the dark decor plus the cold and damp feel, it was like rooming in a cave. We only stayed in the room to sleep and didn't feel too good about that. The public dining areas were dark too, not giving a feeling of subdued lighting/fine dining, but stale outdated decor. There was something about the Plant Room where breakfast was served (part of our package) that made my nose run. The gardens, The Day Butterfly Center, the Callaway Discovery Center, The Garden Restaurant, the little town of Pine Mountain, and proximity to the Little White House make a trip to the area worthwhile and enjoyable, but find somewhere else to stay.

Wonderful people working for Callaway! Stanley in security was a great help in an emergency- John in maintenance was a wiz to fix our AC issue! And a shout out to the wonderful housekeeping crew who rescued my baby's favorite blanket that we lost in our cottage. YIKES! It was just delivered today. You guys made a good vacation with the in-laws great!

The Mountain Creek Inn is a super 8 hotel in a fantastic location. We spent 2 nights here and will not be returning. The rate you pay for what you get is shocking. Based on the pictures and the fact it is a part of Calloway Gardens I certainly expected more then what we recieved. First they allow dogs and big dogs. You can hear everything around you and our upstairs neighbor made sure we knew every step he took. The rooms still allow smoking in most and there is a very stall and smoke smell. You would hope that the staff would make up for the hotels downfall but like the hotel they are a let down. After a long day my daughter and I simply wanted a grilled cheese sandwich from the restraunt and it took over an hour to get it (keep in mind it was not packed). We forgot my daughters favorite stuffed animal that she has had for 9 years, when we arrived home and discovered it we called but were told they could not help us call back at 9am tomorrow.

The pics of the Mountain Creek Inn lobby look rustically elegant and inviting -- kind of like a mountain lodge. But don't expect that to be your experience past the lobby (which is actually much darker and musty smelling). Only some of the rooms have been recently renovated, so it's worth asking for one if you can get it. We spent most of our time biking the trails, visiting the gardens and highlights, and at the beach. Returning to the room was a bit of a let down at the end of the day. In general, the hotel feels like a run-down trailer park, struggling to be maintained. I was disappointed with the overall condition of the hotel and wish my expectations were set accordingly before we arrived.

Room Tip: I recommend a room 'up the hill' behind the pool that are all on a single floor, so no stair...
