“Great outdoors and Great accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011

This was a family trip with no children, although this place caters well to families with children of all ages. We enjoyed our stay in the cottages and the array of activities available. Biking, hiking, golf, swimming, shopping, site seeing, relaxing – all in all a great vacation. We had great meals on property and at several local establishments. Crickets, The Rose Cottage (lunch), The Whistling Pig were some of our favorites. The 2 bedroom cottages were clean and well stocked for our needs.

The Inn was absolutely wonderful. The people that work there must love their jobs because they were so pleasant, helpful and friendly. The rooms were roomy and clean. The pool was amazing, clean, towels that were at hand. I have stayed in many places where I have paid more and got less. Great value! We are going back in November or December because it was just too darn fun and relaxing. The Vineyard was amazing, great food good service.

We stayed in a 1 BR villa (1 king) for 1 night & had a great time. We were impressed with the furnishings & lodge decor--stylish yet comfortable. There were 3 tv's (BR, LR & den) & plenty of seating/entertaining room for a family. The bathroom had a modern feel with sleek hardware but natural with pebble floors (bring your flip flops if you have tender feet). The kitchen had stainless appliances & plenty of dishes, etc. Our only complaint is the bed could have been a lot more comfortable. The downstairs area has a great view to a small, peaceful pond (your neighbors on 1 side are close though because villas are duplexes). Wish we'd had more time there! (You check in for villas at the Inn--where I noticed an unpleasant odor that thankfully wasn't in our villa!)

Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. The Villas are indiviudally owned, so we'll be sure to share your thoughts about the mattress. And, I believe we've taken care of any odor at the Inn. We hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I took our two daughters (8 and 10) here for four nights and we were very impressed by the size of this resort. It is huge! We stayed in the villas (we splurged a bit on the accommodations because we drove instead of flying) but there were several options as far as accommodations go. The "inn" is really an updated motel with lots and lots of rooms and two restaurants and there are also cabins (similar to villas but closer to the lake) and the lodge which looked more like a nice hotel. We loved the villa because we had a full kitchen, huge living room, bedrooms, washer and dryer, outdoor patio. We requested to be close to the pool and they were able to put us there because it was a slow week as the GA public school kids had already gone back so the resort was very quiet. It turns out we only used the pool twice all week because we were so busy doing other activities! My one complaint about the villa was that it was very dated and could use an update. Bedspreads were gross but at least it was clean.

Here is a list of the things we did during our stay: At the lake - Aqua Island, Blaster Boats, putt putt golf, laser tag, tubing/water skiing. We were able to do some of these things several times because of the Fun Passes we purchased, which I would highly recommend. We also rented bikes (included in Fun Pass) and rode the many beautiful trails, did the Tree Top Adventure (did this with my 10 year old, b/c the 8 year old wasn't 54" tall), kayaked, saw the birds of prey show, saw the FSU circus show, went to the butterfly pavillion, went to the horticultural center and my husband played golf two mornings (also included in Fun Pass!).

This is a great place to go as a family, especially if you are active, and I would love to go back with a group of families to make it more fun. I'm sure it is gorgeous in the spring with all of the flowers and trees in bloom! There is plenty to do, however, the one downside for me was the food. There are several places to eat on the property but none of them were very good. The choices were fairly limited, especially at the quick service places, and were not very healthy. I understand that kids eat chicken fingers and hot dogs but it would have been nice to have a greater selection of fresh sandwiches, fruit or salads. We tried to go to the Gardens Restaurant one night which is their high end restaurant; however, a severe afternoon storm had knocked out power and we had to eat at the restaurant at the inn which was like a bad Applebee's. We did try two places in town which were pretty good.

Overall our experience was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we would definitely come back again. Next time we might bring more of our own food and pack picnics for lunch or make dinner at the villa. (FYI -The grocery store in town is not very good and is not open very late).

Room Tip: If staying in the villas, ask for one near the pool.

My wife and I took our 5th anniversary getaway there at Callaway Gardens. We arrived there on Friday August 12th (the day of our anniversary) and departed Sunday the 14th. We stayed Friday and Saturday night at the Mountain Creek Inn. You can tell that the inn has been around for a long time but they have kept up with it very nicely. We didn't have any problems with the room whatsoever and everything worked like it needed to. The amenities there at the Inn were amazing considering the rate we paid. The beds were SO very comfortable!! The grounds were well kept and it looked really nice. They have 2 really nice restaurants in the inn as well and we ate at both places, The Plant Room where we had a really nice buffet breakfast on Saturday morning! Saturday night we ate dinner at the Vineyard Green Restaurant and Spirits and that place was awesome and the food was as fresh as it could be!! The staff there at the Inn and across the street at the park (Callaway Gardens) were all very friendly and always willing to help you out.. At the park, the grounds are very well manicured and maintained and even in the middle of summer, it looked beautiful!!! All the attractions were really nice and the butterfly exhibit is a must see!! We really enjoyed the "Treetop adventure" That was really awesome and the beach was really nice as well!!! The grounds were so big and we actually ran out of time to see everything there!! This place is not only great for couples but also for kids. We have 2 kids of our own and we've decided that we will be back again someday hopefully and when we come back, we will bring our kids because its a great family atmosphere there as well.

There is only one suggestion that I do have and that is to have more food options for those that do have food allergies. One of our children has wheat and milk allergies so he is on a gluten free diet and I know that there are other folks out there that may have these kinds of issues and that's the only suggestion that I'd make is have gluten free options out there.. We really enjoyed our stay there and look forward to being back there at Callaway Gardens.
