“Roach Hotel”

Amberley Suite Hotel

Please don't be fooled by the pretty pictures you see of this hotel because once you pass the lobby area it goes downhill. When I opened the door of the first room given to me it was lined with roaches (dead & alive) along the inside of the door and all over the walls. Because my stay was during a holiday weekend I was unable to make accommodations at another hotel. Amberley provided me with another room on a different floor. This room did not have any visible bugs or insects on the walls or furniture but after the first experience I was suspicious. If one room has that many roaches then there are roaches throughout the entire hotel.

Upon further inspection I found the following:

•The stove and refrigerator were dirty
•The kitchen floor was sticky
•The light fixtures had dead bugs in them
•The bathroom had mildew stains on the ceiling
•Trash was left in the hallway, windows in the hallway & elevator
•Many of the doors to the back & side entrances of the hotel were unsecured
•The elevators were old and filthy (my last day there~ someone urinated in one of the two elevators)
•Some of the windows on the first floor were broken & busted out
•The gym had about 3-5 pieces of equipment that were outdated

I was forced to buy sleeping bags, towels and bug spray to endure my stay.

I stayed in the hotel for three days and Gwinnett County police were called each day for disturbances or incidents that occurred often multiple times during the course of the day.

Please note this is not only a hotel but also an apartment complex primarily for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I applaud the hotel for providing shelter for these people but this may explain why children can be found running through the halls during all hours of the night. The accommodations they’re being provided are deplorable.

The last note about customer service… unfriendly, unpleasant and not producing apologies for their inconveniences. Please, do yourself a favor and do not patronize this hotel. I’ve stayed in many hotels in the Atlanta metro area in the past ten years and this is the worst experience I’ve ever had.

My kids and I were traveling from Texas to visit my husband working in Atlanta. I chose the Amberley Suites after searching for hours online. It seemed very nice by appearance. I chose to call the hotel and personally book our reservations over the phone. I did ask several questions confirming the advertisement online for things like...free HOT buffet style breakfast, Happy hour drinks kin the lobby, pool, hot tub, gym, etc. Upon asking, I was guaranteed that it was JUST LIKE what I saw online. However, when we arrived we soon found out that it was nothing but a big FAT LIE!!!! The looks from the outside were deceiving of what lurked behind closed doors. We could tell that it was a very nice hotel at one time but that upon poor management....it was surely going downhill. The room we booked was a kitchenette style. It smelled awful...like mold or something peculiar. The ceilings were covered in what looked like old water stains. The place seemed clean...except the old rust stains in the bathroom and the broken drain cover in the bathtub. We didn't have any dishes...called to retrieve them but never were brought to us. We couldn't even get clean towels after using the two that were in the room. BUT that's not all....when we went to the restaraunt for our HOT breakfast, we found cereal, toast and bagels...weak coffee, juice and milk. It was a huge diasapointmant. When I asked the front desk, I was told that the buffet style breakfast had not been active for a year. What an unpleasant surprise...
BUT, that's not what finally sent us packing. I could live with not having a HOT breakfast as long as we had something to eat. Later that evening, we all got ready for the pool and hottub. Well, lo and behold....the pool and hottub were both closed due to cleaning. WOW!!!! That was blow that could not be ignored because I was LIED to more than once! I immediatly called the front desk and they informed me that the pool and hottub wouldn't be ready until April 1st...AFTER we left. I went on to tell the manager how very dissappointing it all was....and that I wanted a refund. She promptly apoligized and said we would receive a full refund. Well, we got all but one night of $35 back. It was not fun repacking and moving...especially when your Husband is working and you have to do it all on your own with 4 kids. I strongly recommend the Drury Inn and Suites. It's higher in price but if you can get a deal like we did....it's well worth the money. Plus, the Amberley Suites is in a bad neighborhood....people standing on the street and in the parking lot selling drugs and smoking crack. I didn't need to see that...but that's what I was told they were doing from one other dissatisfied guest who was in the process of leaving.

Our recent stay at the Amberley Suite Hotel was mixed at best, we chose the hotel because we had a coupon from the *green* coupon book and needed someplace to stay near Atlanta for the weekend.
The hotel looks very nice from the street, and the lobby has a certain faded elegance, but it doesn't extend down the halls into the guest rooms!
Our coupon promised a breakfast buffet, but all that was to be had was toast, cereal, weak coffee, juice and the like.
Our room while clean was in disrepair, and the TV had a howling noise on some of the cable channels. There was awful water stains on the ceiling.
There was trash in the hallways, and it littered the grounds. Much of the walkways were broken up cement.
I'm sure when Amberley was built it was very nice, there was even a menu for the cafe in the room, they used to serve prime rib, but not anymore!
I think the Amberley is on the verge of death, and we've promised ourselves that we won't stay there ever again, it's too painful to watch something that must have been quite nice in it's prime die.

“Hated It”

Amberley Suite Hotel

I am a newlywed married for 2 months at the time of my stay. My husband and I decided to take a weekend getaway to Georgia. We booked this hotel online after visiting their website, which gave a very deceptive view of the actual hotel. Our room was suppose to be a kitchenette suite with a stove and refrigerator. The first room we were given the door was broken and would not open. When we finally received our room it was horrible. It had an awful smell, the television was very hard to see because it was quite out of date, and the room was not a kitchenette nor a suite. The entire hotel in general was like the "projects" and not a hotel. I would never stay or recommend anyone I cared about to book this place.
