I first stayed here on Memorial Day Weekend, 2003 when it was known as the ClubHouse Inn. It was absolutely perfect then for the value at around $105 a night. It had an indoor hot tub, outdoor pool and exercise room. I had a nice, comfortable King Size bed, plenty of cable channels, and an outstanding breakfast buffet that you could enjoy IN YOUR ROOM. Orange Juice, Sausage, Bacon, Eggs, Grits and Pancakes for no extra charge that was cooked on site. It was awesome!
Fast Forward to my Honeymoon, March 2006....
New Ownership, now as the La Quinta Inn. Not a problem, I thought, as long as the experience was the same. IT WAS NOT!
First off, the indoor hot tub was removed. It's gone! The pool was covered up and inaccessible. The cable was down to 15 channels, from the previous 50 or 60.
The breakfast buffet was a shell of itself, and now the management charged you $6 per plate to take the food to eat in the privacy of your room. I totally lost my appetite at this, and went out to eat at the local IHOP upon checkout.
But the kicker was this: Behind the "service" desk, was a computer monitor with views of every hallway, indoor and out, in plain view of the patrons. Normally I wouldn't have blinked at this, but this surveillance system FOLLOWS you whereever you walk! Each camera window flashes when there is motion in the camera, allowing the managment to watch your every move as if you are in a state penitentiary! This absoulutely compromises any comfort you could hope to have without the feeling of being watched.
Do not go to this hotel. If you stayed here before when it was the Clubhouse Inn, it's a pay-to-stay prison now. This experience really hampered what was supposed to be a wonderful experience with my new bride. Save your money, and tell your friends to STAY AWAY. Stay FAR away!
