This has to be our worst Premier Inn experience. The accommodation is in serious need of refurbishment. The bed was very uncomfortable. Housekeeping put a duvet under the sheet to make it better. It helped a little but did nothing to deafen the noise of the springs every time one of us moved. Housekeeping was not up to Premier Inn standards. There was dust on every surface below waist level. Parking was a problem. The hotel has 3 disabled spaces and most of the time they were occupied by non-Blue Badge holders. The receptionist asked a guest to move his vehicle one night so that we could park. The reception staff who were on duty the day we left were not interested in our negative response to their question about whether everything had been all right with our stay. Unless it's the only place with vacancies in the area, we won't return until it has been refurbished.

Dear RandJ P

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, I appreciate all feedback as it gives us an opportunity to review our standards and service. I am very disappointed that your stay did not meet your expectations and the standards did not reflect the ones you have been accustomed to with Premier Inn.

I am sorry that you did not have a good night’s sleep due to the uncomfortable mattress and loud squeaking from the bed. Please be assured that I will investigate this bed and feedback to our suppliers about the issues experienced to resolve this. At Premier Inn we pride ourselves on being able to promise every guest a great night’s sleep, so on this occasion I am saddened we were unable to do so. I have contacted you directly, as we do operate the Good Night Guarantee for when we are unable to meet our promise.

On the cleanliness standards in the bedrooms, once again let me apologise. I will take this up directly with the housekeeping department to ensure that this experience is not repeated. I hope that you do not think this indicative of our normal standards.

Our car park is an issue that we are aware of and we currently have plans in place to extend the size of the car park up to 60 spaces to better accommodate our hotel guests. We do everything in our power to ensure that genuine blue badge holders take our disabled spaces; unfortunately it is difficult to keep track of car owners if they are not staying within the Premier Inn.

I am genuinely sorry to hear you felt our reception team did not take an interest in your negative feedback regarding your stay. I will speak with our reception team, and the team members involved and provide them with the training to be able to efficiently deal with situations such as these should they arise. As I mentioned before, we greatly appreciate and value any feedback that our guests are able to provide so that we are able to act upon it.

Thank you once again for your review

Kind regards
Lauren Kay

We had never stayed in a Premier Inn before and were unsure what to expect. It was to split a trip further up in Scotland. Everything was spotless, and although simply furnished, the room was very pleasant and we have paid a lot more for similar facilities. Comfy bed and pillow as they say on the advert and very quiet during the night - although it could have been because there weren't many people staying there that night. I believe it's very convenient for Edinburgh by train into the centre of Princes Street. We had two meals in the Brewers Fayre and have to say the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, particularly as we travelled with son in wheelchair and seven month old baby. I hate to say negatives but we were disappointed with the carvery - no problem with the meat, plenty of it! The Yorkshire puddings were of the frozen variety, the carrots very hard and the cabbage cold. The roast potatoes were also of the frozen sort. The gravy not very tasty. At £5.99 the dessert of a shared sundae was also disappointing for the price. However, breakfast was of excellent quality, with a buffet, plenty of cereals, toast, croissants, fruit, etc. Overall really delighted with the stay and will definitely use Premier Inns again.

Have stayed at a number of Premier Inns across UK and would have no hesitation in recommending this one.
Warm, clean room and bathroom on first floor - note, I didn't see a lift so ask for a ground floor room if you have mobility difficulties.
Staff were friendly and helpful. For convenience on a cold wet evening, we ate in the adjacent 'Brewers Fayre'. It was perfectly adequate and extremely good value for money.
This was just a brief one-night stop-over and was ideal for us. I would use this again if convenient to our needs.

Room Tip: I didn't see any lift so ask for a ground floor room if you have mobility problems.

Stayed here one night (also stayed here about 8 months ago) and know this as an ideally located place from which to visit Ikea (10 min drive) or take the train into Edinburgh city centre. The hotel seems to be somewhat isolated as it appears there are no shops or restaurants within 10 min walk. We were in room 24 and couldn't fail to notice the number of creaky floorboards along the corridor from reception to room.

Room and bed were up to Premier Inn's usual high standard, but let down by the need to pay for wifi access beyond the free (meagre) 30 min allowance.

Restaurant was OK (usual Beefeater/Brewers Fayre/Toby standard) but staff were having difficulties coping once the restaurant got about 3/4 full, but food was perfectly OK enjoyable and attractively priced

We would stay here again without hesitation and recommend it even when paying full price (as we did)

Room Tip: In the countryside only a minute or two from the A1, but you WILL need a car to get here

Just stayed here for three nights whilst visiting family - very comfortable place to stay. Easy to get into Edinburgh from here and although the hotel is very close to the A1 it seems as though you are staying in the countryside. The staff are very welcoming and pleased to help. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good too. Will certianly be visiting this premier inn again

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

My wife and I were looking for a decent hotel for a short break to celebrate new years in Edinburgh. All the city centre hotels were way over-priced for this time of year so we looked for alternatives outside the city centre. This hotel seemed to fit the bill so we booked for 3 nights. The hotel is only 15 minutes drive away from the city centre and is easy to find. 5 minutes drive down the road is the local town with many shops and a 24 hour Tesco's - very handy. We received a warm welcome from the receptionist upon arrival and were quickly shown to our room. The rooms are a bit plain with quite a bit of bare wall showing. A basic clothes hanging area, shelving and desk are all good quality. Tea/coffee making facilities are included as well as a flat screen TV with many channels. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bed linen and firm pillows. Softer pillows were also available on top of the wardrobe space. The is also a seating sofa which I think converts to a double bed if required but we never used it. The room was very large and spacious. The bathroom is adequate in size and has good quality facilities. The shower wasn't to our taste as the shower head is fixed to the wall and cannot be taken off. As a man of over 6' the shower head was too low to get my head under without bending down. We would have preferred a removable shower head with flexible hose. Other than that the hot water was plentiful and the towel rail kept the towels warm. The only issue we had with the room was hearing conversations and movements from guests in adjoining rooms. This didn't disturb our sleep in any way but we were aware of the other guests in their rooms. Overall impressions of the room were good for the price we paid - we've stayed in many hotel rooms at much higher prices and this room would put them to shame on size and comfort - openly thing laking was a bit of personality and character - then again for a "budget" hotel this is around the best you will get.
The hotel is connected to a Brewers Fayre restaurant which served us dinner and breakfast. Dinner on the first night was nice with a really warm welcome from every member of staff we encountered. Food was good quality and great value. Arriving for breakfast the next morning we were welcomed very warmly and showed to a table. Everything was explained to us in great detail and were offered help whenever we needed it - the 2 ladies serving us at breakfast were very friends and efficient and a credit to restaurant. The only disappointment was that the cooked breakfast was buffet style rather than cooked to order which would have made it a better quality breakfast. Overall the breakfast was good.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Edinburgh and doesn't want to pay the stupid prices of the city centre hotels. Would stay here again if visiting the area without hesitation.
