“Felt like coming home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Killeen House Hotel is a family-run business and by the time you leave, you really do feel like one of the family. It's not a sparkly, shiny hotel sporting every mod-con and gadget, rather it's a warm, comfortable home that oozes character and Irish charm. Michael, Geraldine and indeed every member of staff we encountered, would go out of their way to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. You won't find that personal touch in any of the big, sterile hotels. Nothing was a problem, even my early daily calls for a coffee to be delivered to my room were met with a quick and smiling response. Breakfasts were substantial and a perfect way to fuel for the day and dinners in the restaurant were always something we looked forward to at the end of a long day sight-seeing. Kelvin & Gina Syms
There was always lots of chatter and laughter over dinner, and good-humored banter with our hosts - who seem to genuinely enjoy meeting people and making everyone welcome.
And they're honest! We accidentally left a favorite, and quite valuable, pen in our room when we left, and Michael was good enough to find it for us, and post it back - which we very much appreciated.

Here is my bulleted list review:

*Room 302, on the first floor, called a Championship Room (level of quality of rooms have golf names).
*Room was very close to the small road that runs behind the inn.
*Decent size room, two double beds.
*We noticed upon checking in that the room had a stagnant water smell, but as the hotel was fully booked, we couldn't change rooms. The odor became worse as the days went on and there was more rain, a dehumidifer probably could have helped.
*Decent bathroom, good water pressure, could use an update even though the Championship Rooms are supposed to be newer.
*Wi-fi didn't work outside the pub or common rooms, it wasn't just us, we heard similar comments from other guests. An inconvenience when trying to do research on local sights.
*Whole staff is *very* friendly and the owner, Michael is great at giving directions, offering advice, and we enjoyed some sights we might not have otherwise seen.
*The friendly atmosphere carries over into the pub room where guests mingle and swap stories over drinks. Great atmosphere!
*There is a full lunch and dinner menu offered in their restaurant, and a bar menu offered in their little pub. Food was very good.
*Full breakfast included with price of room, not a buffet, order hot & cold items from menu.
*The Inn is popular with golfers and they will set up tee times for you.
*It is very quiet in this part of town and you'll get a good night's sleep.
*Good location - quick car ride to town center with shops, restaurants, etc.

Hi and thank you very much for your very thorough and very practical review here on Trip Advisor - we truly do appreciate your taking the time to write it and post it

And please accept our sincere apologies for the odour you encountered in the bedroom during your stay with us. This was caused by pipework outside in the yard of the Hotel. We took remedial action and hopefully this is a probelm that will not be encountered again in the Killeen House

On the issue of wifi, the entire property - including the gardens - is wifi enabled since 2010. But unfortunately given our lacation in the heart of the countryside, the reception can sometimes be perfect, but also sometimes be patchy and frustratingly slow. We do however have a computer with full Internet access availabe on a 32 hour basis for guest use in our Lounge (and we're delighted to say that we provide all of these services on a fully complimentary basis

And we'd just like to correct one small point in your review. We don't actually provide lunch on a daily basis in our Rozzers restaurant. We just do dinner each evening from 6.30pm onwards. We can however - and frequetly do - put on Lunch for small groups when it's arranged in advance. And we provide a good Pub Menu each day from noon onwards

Thanks again for the detailed review and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your Irish vacarion. Michael & Geraldine

We absolutely loved this place. From the moment we checked in until we checked out everything was wonderful. Michael, Geraldine & Gavin could not have been more welcoming. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and I can't wait for the day when I can make a return trip!

We want to live at the Killeen House. Everything we could think of or want was happily brought to us to enjoy. The grounds are spectacular. The owners are the finest people on the planet. The room was breathtakingly beautiful. We can't say enough wonderful things about this experience. The staff was take-home-able. We will be back. We will.

Room Tip: Highly, highly recommended.

What a stunner of a review! Thank you, thank you and thank you again

The only problem with reviews like this is that they set such high expectation for future guests, and that can be a bit of a problem because we'd prefer to under promise and over deliver rather than the other way around....!

We simply pride ourselves on looking after people the way we'd like to be looked after if we were in their place, which is with decency and courtesy, and above all, sincere caring and friendship

Thanks again, we're delighted that you enjoyed it all so much and that you've promised you'll be back to us - we can't wait!

All the best. Michael & Geraldine

From the moment we walked in and were personally greeted with a warm welcome from Michael (the owner) we knew we were in a very special place. Michael and Geraldine exemplify hospitality and go beyond measure with genuine caring from drinks to dessert! Michael even gave the guys tips on what club to use on the first hole of a course they were playing the next day! I mean, come on, I felt like someone should pinch me, I think I've died and went to heaven...maybe it was the priest and two nuns celebrating a birthday next table, but honestly it was magical. Did I mention the lamb was outstanding...excellent wine choices. Just an overall perfect pick to commemorate our 30th anniversary!!

Wow! What a wonderful review and thank you so much for taking the time to write it up and post it up here on Trip Advisor - we are truly grateful to you!

It was a pleasure to look after to on your anniversary night, and we're honoured that out of all the dining options you had in Killarney, that you chose us...

And a sincere thank you for the exceptional kindness and courtesies you showed to our other guests too - and if you come back to us for your 40th - we'll have a Bishop on hand to help you celebrate.....!!!

I hope and trust the rest of your trip went off well and that you're now landed safely back home in the Big Apple, laden down with a host of happy Irish memories! (And I hope too that the boys took my advice and then got birdies on the first on Killeen!!!)

Thanks again and best of everything to you all. Michael & Geraldine

We loved the hominess of the Killeen House, Michael, Geraldine and the rest of the staff couldn't have been more warm and charming. The staff was had excellent balance of being welcoming without being overbearing. The food in their restaurant was excellent as were the wines. The rooms were comfortable and the decor lovely down to the smallest detail. This is the kind of place you want to stay in of you want to get a feeling of the people of Ireland.

Our golf club pro told me before our trip that Killeen House would be the highlight of our trip to Ireland. He was absolutely correct! Michael and Geraldine treated us like long-lost relatives (the kind you are happy to see!) and we felt like we were staying in their well-appointed home, not a hotel. The accommodations, food choice and quality, and staff service all exceeded our expectations. Frankly, we regretted planning only a two night stay. If you are traveling to southwest Ireland, a stay at Killeen House is a must-do. Oh, by the way, did I mention that the water pressure in the shower was great?

Hi and thanks a million for the fantastic review here on Trip Advisor - we really and truly appreciate all the time and effort you took to write it and post it

It was a pleasure looking after you and we just knew that the water preessure would be one of the highlights of your trip!! It's always nice to have nice food, nice staff and a nice atmosphere, but the real cream on the cake is the water pressure!

Now you know where we are, we look forward to welcoming you back to God's Own Country again - hopefully in the not-too-distant future

And by the way, pease say a big hello and thank you to your Golf Pro - and always listen to him, because he is clearly a wise man....!
