“30th wedding anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

My wife and I just got back from celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary in Ireland. Most of our trip was spent at the Killeen House in Killarney, Ireland and all I can say is that I truly doubt there could be any better place to stay! The owners, Geraldine and Michael, as well as the rest of their excellent staff gave us unbelievable attention and made us feel like family. The accommodations were excellent and the food in their restaurant outstanding. If you are going to Ireland, the Killeen House is the place to go and when you do, make sure that you ask Geraldine and Michael for travel advice - you most certainly will not go wrong!

Hi Larry and thank you for the sparkling review here on Trip Advisor - we really and truly appreciate it

It was a pleasure to look after you in both the run-up to the trip and then while you were here with us in the Killeen House, and I hope the rest of the trip went off just as well for you. I have no doubt that the little surprise you managed to pull off earned you a bucket-load of credits with your Real Boss - use them happily and judiciously!

Thanks again Larry and looking forward to helping you sort out next year's golf trip!

All the best. Michael & Geraldine

Just returned from 2 weeks in Ireland. The killeen house was our first stay. We were a little concerned that Killeen House was a bit outside Killarney. That actually turned out to be a blessing. To us Killarney, the town, was just too crowded and touristy; but the area around Killarney may well be among the most beautiful we have visited We originally had planned to stay 2 days in the area and an Irish friend suggested we stay longer. We did and I think you could easily spend a week in the area and still not have enough time. The Killeen House is beautiful small hotel. Our room was large, incredibly clean, quiet and over looked a beautiful garden. It really was perfect for the beginning of our trip. The owners and the entire staff could not make you feel more at home. We had already decided we wanted to eat at a highly rated restaurant (on Tripadvisor) called Rozzers so we declined our hotel hosts offer to set us up for dinner at the hotel. We then called Rozzers to make a reservation; thankfully the Killeen House folks are very kind. They didn't even smirk at the tired Americans and simply took the reservation for dinner at Rozzers which happens to be at the Killeen House. Great restaurant. We had wonderful experiences at Rozzers and the Killeen House.

Hi and thank you so much for your great review here on Trip Advisor - we really and truly appreciate it

And thank you also for pointing out the sheer beauty and variety of the Killarney and Kerry area and how much there is to see and do in it. We've given up being amazed at how often guests say to us at check-out that they regret they did not plan to stay longer with us, because they haven't allowed enough time to fully explore the area

You're not the first people to ring Rozzers restaurant from our bedrooms only to find out that it's part of the Killeen House - and hopefully you won't be the last either!

While we kind of treat Rozzers a little bit separately from the Killeen House for marketing purposes, we take deep pride in the fact that they compliment each other so nicely and that both of them are so well regarded by our customers

We hope that the rest of your Irish holiday went off as enjoyably as your start here with us in Killarney and that you'll return one day to God's Own Country....!

Thanks again and all the best. Michael & Geraldine

Staying at the Killeen House made our whole trip to Ireland fantastic. We stayed 5 nights this past August with our 3 boys (ages 12, 10 and 7) and it was the ideal home-base for day trips everywhere - Blarney Castle, the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, not to mention the Gap of Dunloe right around the corner. Mike and Geraldine were so helpful and welcoming - at the end of each day we felt like we were going "home." The rooms were comfortable and clean, and their restaurant Rozzers was off the charts - great food! They were also better than any travel agent when it came to deciding what to see and do. We would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone - business, golf, family - the Killeen House is perfect. We hope to return some day soon!

Hi Megan and thanks a million for the glowing report here on Trip Advisor - we really appreciate your taking the time to write it and the trouble to post it

We're delighted that yourself, Chris and the boys had a good time with us here in the Killeen House and we're even more delighted that you have such smart and intelligent friends in NJ (please say hello - and thank you! - to Clan Dolan from us)

And no doubt the comprehensive "Fighting Irish" victory in Dublin also served to add to the enjoyment of the overall Irish Jaunt for you all

Thanks again Megan and now that you know where we are, we hope we'll be welcoming you back again - sooner rather than later!

All the best to everyone. Michael & Geraldine

Our trip in August 2012 was the first time my husband and I visited Ireland. If I had to base the trip solely on our time and experience at the Killeen House, our trip was easily, by far, a 10 out 10. Michael, Geraldine and their staff literally made us feel like we were one of the family; coming home for a visit. Never have I been treated so wonderfully, and so attentively. Everything was perfect; from the rooms, to the food and bar… all amazing. We were so overwhelmingly pleased and happy with the Killeen House, and we will absolutely be back

Hi Brenna and thank you so much for the great review here on Trip Advisor - we really appreciate it

And we're delighted that even not getting the result you wanted in the big match didn't dim your enjoyment of the great Irish vacation....!

It was a pleasure looking after you both and we hope that now you have discovered Ireland you might even come and visit us again here in the Killeen House in the not too distant future

Thanks again Brenna, keep well and safe sailing! Michael & Geraldine

My wife and I were at Killeen House hotel in 2006, so I dragged our 8 man golf group there in May 2012 for a return visit. I was worried that it might have changed with the economy, but it was BETTER! Geraldine and Michael, who is 'certifiably Irish', are overboard with the attention to detail and help in planning your days in the area, including some 'pull' at local golf courses. This is not a hotel as much as a B&B....best of both worlds. The 'honour' bar experience starts with Michael's instructions on how to properly pour a Guiness......then you are on your own to drink as you please [with a notation to the bar book]. The gourmet dining experience at Roz's draws outsiders each night so be sure to book your table ahead of time. To a man all of the lads said that they would love to return with their spouses - perhaps that would save on caddy fees. Yes, humour is a major part of this great little hotel just outside of Killarney town.....all kidding aside!

Room Tip: chech their website as there is a considerable difference in room types, all being great B&B far...

Hi Douggo and thank you very much for the outstanding review - we are really thankful to you for putting it up here on Trip Advisor

Although you took your time coming back to us (!!!) we're delighted that we still managed to live up to your expectations even after a six year lapse!

And thank you for pointing out what we consider to be our greatest strength - the fact that while we are a full service Hotel, we try to run it with the personality and warmth of a traditional B&B. (In 21 years of business, the only person we did not call by their first name when they came to visit us, was the President of Ireland, who called in for lunch a number of years ago!)

Thanks again for the review Douggo - and please don't wait six more years before gracing us all with your newfie presence again.....!

All the best to everyone. Michael & Geraldine

What a great experience. took a group of 8 golfers and we spent 4 nights with Michael, Geraldine and their staff. Everything was perfect, rooms, food, bar all #1. But, the bigger deal is how they treat you, just like good family coming home for a few days. We will be back.

Room Tip: They are all great

Hi and thank you very much for the super review here on Trip Advisor - we really do appreciate it

What we absolutely love to see on any review is the last four words you wrote...."We will be back"

That is without doubt the best thanks or the best compliment we can get from any guest!

We're delighted the trip went off so well for you and that the weather do not take too much from your enjoyment of the vacation, and the soft, gentle and easy golf courses you were playing.....!?!?

Thanks again and all the best to you and all the guys. Michael & Geraldine

I am writing this knowing that it is a bit of a futile exercise because nothing can be said about the Killeen House that hasn't been articulated before. However, since I just returned from Ireland with my wife, two children and near eighty-year old father I certainly feel that I have a debt to pay to this wonderful establishment.

We chose to stay in Killarney because of the wonderful national park, the great town & easy access to day trips in the Southwest region. In addition, it put us within one half hour of close relations that we would be seeing during the week. Like many of you reading this, I use TripAdvisor as a resource to travel and I have to say it has never steered me wrong.

Upon arriving at the Killeen House we were blown away by the view of some Kerry mountains in the park-I can't recall seeing it on the website but it was a pleasant surprise that we enjoyed everyday. The owners of this house (Geraldine and Michael) are very professional, obviously intelligent and incredibly nice folks that make you feel welcome and absolutely at home for the duration of your stay. From day one my father was patting me on the back for finding such a great place with such nice people! Marguerite (sorry if this is spelled wrong) at breakfast, and Ciara were great ladies that took great care of us. Also, the "jack of all trades" and bartender Gavin was a super host that made my family very comfortable for our stay - all the way up to serving us "to go" coffee at our 5AM departure to the airport!

The huge amount of overwhelmingly positive reviews in TripAdvisor are spot on in the case of the Killeen House. If you want to have some wonderful memories of the most beautiful place in the world, Killarney's Killeen House is a no-miss prospect. I'm depressed for my kids as they have to go back to school in a week, however I'm elated that they are still on cloud nine from our time in Killarney-thank you Geraldine and Michael! We will return!

Hi Mike and a million thanks for the stunning review - we really appreciate it!

Glad you're all safely landed back home to reality in NY, hopefully enriched with a load of happy family memories

It was a pleasure to look after you all, especially your Dad, for whom it was more of a pilgrimage than a vacation. We can only imagine the memories and emotions that the trip must have brought back to him.....

Here in the Killeen House we feel that there are three Ps that have to come together to make for a great holiday - the People, the Place and the Pace. We like to think we have them all in abundance - and we're delighted that you seem to agree with us!

Thanks again Mike and we look forward to welcoming back Clan Tarrant to the Killeen House at some future stage

All the very best to everyone. Michael & Geraldine
