“Poor food, service and drinks at Heights lounge”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Review is of Dinner in Heights Lounge - June 2013.
Stayed at this hotel back in 2008 and really loved it.
Even though we were staying a different hotel in Killarney on this occasion, decided to go to the Aghadoe for some dinner and drinks on one evening. Bad decision. Will simply state facts:
(1) Worst Mojito ever. Ever. Sounds a bit extreme but is something I enjoy when on holiday and their version came looking like radioactive waste. Had some kind of nasty liquer in it. 4 sips was all that was possible.
(2) Dinner order was misplaced. Someone else ordered the same food options as myself and my wife and they got our food. Took the staff about an hour before they realised this - ie we were ignored for this period.
(3) Food itself was poor. Well my wife thought her burger was ok, My fish was soggy and chips were tasteless. Obviously tried to rush the food to compensate for the order screw up.
They did not charge me for the beer - that was used to replace the nasty Mojito - because of the food delay.
Only other issue was that they had a function in one room where there was lots of loud music and we could hear this in one ear and the music from their piano in the other.
Got back to our own hotel as quickly as possible so we could salvage what we could from the evening.

What a gem. Magical location and views - i dont say this lightly the views at this hotel set the bar as they are completely breathtaking. Real "irish welcome" staff who are are also 5 star trained - this combo is really rare in Ireland. Brendan - one of concierge team is just class personified. Nothing was a problem. Our room was fantastic. Class suite with a side lounge area and panoramic floor to ceiling window with the spectacular lake views. The bathroom is definitely up there with the best ive seen in say ritz carlton or any of the dubai 5 stars. It was opulent. And great products too - my wife said the hair stuff was superb. Food from start to finish is first class. Breakfast was a joy. Anything and everything is available. From the healthy to the bold and we had it all - the bircher muesli was to die for! Great social bar for a drink - we had a few...! I am told by herself that the spa and massage were beautiful - uber luxe and just what the doctor ordered. 3 days at aghadoe and my bill was fairly whopping and.....it was worth every cent. I will be back. In 2013.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms.

Aghadoe Heights was the first stop on our honeymoon and it was the perfect way to start an incredible trip in Ireland. We arrived, jet-lagged, prior to check-in time and the friendly staff of Aghadoe graciously accommodated us. Our room was absolutely stunning, overlooking the Lakes of Killarney. We settled into the complimentary spa robes and ordered room service, which was prompt, delicious, and beautifully served. We both took advantage of spa services, including use of the Thermal Suite, which is an excellent addition to the standard spa services. The hotel also allowed complimentary use of the Thermal Suite from 9-10 in the morning and for another hour in the afternoon for guests of the hotel, which we took advantage of on the days we didn't have a spa service booked. The spa was incredibly clean and relaxing and the staff was wonderful. All of the venues at the hotel, including the spa, pool area, restaurant, and bar area, have stunning, full window views of the lakes and mountains of Killarney. All of the staff were incredibly gracious, kind, and welcoming. I would definitely stay at Aghadoe again, and recommend it to all travelers in the Killarney area.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the lakes.

What is all the hype about!? The hotel is an ugly industrial looking building across from a cementary! Why hasn't anyone mentioned this? While the view also is of the lake, the cementary is outside my window. The bed is as hard as an ironing board, the bathroom is like a motel. I wish I could change hotels. I hope this doesn't change the energy of the trip for us. One positive, the staff is friendly.

We had a huge comfortable room with fantastic views of the lake and the snow covered mountains in the distance. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic and breakfast was also delicious. The spa was very nice; the only annoying thing was that the tiny swimming pool was on the other side of the hotel from the spa. Highly recommended.

I've never before stayed in a hotel for 2 nights and known ( nor wanted to know) the names of all staff I met. The team in Aghadoe Heights show tremendous courtesy and are quite simply world class. What I liked about the team is their personable approach, and genuine care for their guests. They're not in your face, but its the little things that happen around you that make your stay easier and more comfortable. ( example in the bar, a few friends had gathered on balcony and while we were speaking, unknown to us nor seen by anyone a table arrived for us to put our drinks, with some nibblles and extra glasses) A simple touch, not asked for but intuitively anticipated and surprisingly appreciated!

Throw in spectacular views of the Lakes and you are quite simply in the nicest hotel in Kerry, if not the Country. The Spa itself is supreme, in that all who attended over the weekend were truly pampered. The weather took a turn for the inclement, but as the hotel was truly a pleasure to be in, it didn't seem to matter that the heavens opened. I would recommend this hotel to anyone to truly see the best of genuine Irish Hospitality.

After travelling all the way from Dublin to Killarney I was really looking forward to realxing in this wonderful hotel i had heard so much about. As we drove up to the hotel i could hardly believe my eyes, a prison-like exterior greeted me, my heart sank, was this it!!! As we went inside it didnt get much better. The hotel looked like it had been let go, smelt like the inside of a tent and as we got to our room things got worse. There was no big, soft king size bed awaiting only two single beds tied together. I asked to move to a room with a proper bed and we were moved to a family room, a large cold room with an ugly bathroom so i returned to my original room, all the fun and magic of my stay dwindelling at this stage. The staff were very nice and very professional. We had an early bird meal, but had i known, for a much more reasonable sum could have eaten same food in the bar. The athmosphere in the bar that night was lovley and the piano player provided some entertainment which was very enjoyable. The breakfast was very tastey but i wasnt going to be working it off in the smimming pool as it was tiny!! One of the most disappointing nights away and i will not be returning again. This hotel is depending entirely on the beautiful scenery, how it has 5 stars ill never know!
