“Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere, great service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

We stopped here for dinner one night and were so pleasantly surprised! The chef welcomed us to the restaurant and makes a special dish to start out. We ordered an appetizer, and after finishing it we ordered another one because the first one was so delicious. Our dinner was flavored with such a unique spice blend - and the wine they recommended paired beautifully with it. Just an overall amazing meal.

“Wow! Great find in the neighborhood.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

I was part of a group of 8 that went out to celebrate a birthday at Sun Dried. It was a first-time visit for all of us and we took a chance based on other reviews we've seen online. We were so happy we took the chance, the restaurant is terrific and such a great addition to the area.
It is African food with Southern influences. It is hard to describe - the flavors are a revelation and at the same time they are familiar. The service was slow but they appear to have limited wait staff and possibly limited kitchen staff as they just opened in Sept/Oct 2013.
Back to the food - they have fish, chicken, steak, salads. Our group had Steak & Frites, Snapper with garlic mashed potatoes, Shrimp & Grits, West African Fish, and chicken with African spices. All of this sounds somewhat familiar, right? Well, it is and it isn't - it is even better than what you've had before. The flavors pop and wake up your mouth. You are given a free appetizer when you sit down - plantains with a sauce that is delicious and surprising. They have a limited wine menu (South African reds and whites) and one bottled beer (from Oregon, believe it was called Session).
The chef is lovely and comes out to talk to you about the dishes. He is skilled and his restaurant is a fabulous addition to the neighborhood. We hope they stick around because they are in a challenging location - one that is off of a main intersection (Sandy Plains) but can't be seen from the street. Give them a shot if you're in the area, you won't regret it.

“Wow! What a find! Excellent addition to the neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

I booked a table for 8 to celebrate my husband's birthday based on reviews on another site. This little gem just opened in September/October of this year and it is an excellent addition to the neighborhood and a street filled with fast-food options.
Sun-Dried is African food with Southern influences. It is hard to describe but a revelation for the mouth! We had dishes ranging from Steak & Frites, West African Fish, Snapper with garlic mashed potatoes, Chicken with African spices, Shrimp and Grits. You may be thinking I've had all of this before, it sounds the same as every other restaurant. The tastes are familiar but different. The food pops in your mouth and is a wonder! The service was slow, only one waitress on the floor, but there also may be limited assistance in the kitchen due to just starting out. We had a late reservation (7:30) and were seated immediately. While the service was slow it was also friendly and accommodating (they turned down the thermostat as it was too warm in the room). Hopefully they will work out the timing and service issues as they continue to remain open. They have South African red and white wines as well as one beer (from Oregon) on their menu. The prices are very fair, on the low side I think.
Give this restaurant a try, you won't regret it!

“Amazing food and great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We noticed this little spot on Sandy Plains was finally filled again after being empty for quite a while. Since it's new, not many reviews yet, but I can definitely recommend this place for anyone who is curious.
They first brought us a delicious plantain appetizer. Everyone at our table tried something different, so we had a good sampling of the entire menu. The fish dishes were excellent. If you like shrimp & grits, this is the place to get it. I had a kobe steak and it was cooked just as I ordered. We also had the scallops and some salads at our table, and all was excellent.
I have to say that what separates Sun Dried from other places in the area is the spices that were used. The chef has a great knowledge of spices and he spent some time sharing with us after our meal.
Overall, a great meal for a large group or just a quiet night out. The prices were very reasonable also. And the staff was so nice to us the entire evening.
We will definitely be back.

“Delicious food with great poential”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We celebrated a friend’s birthday at the new Sun Dried restaurant in Marietta, which is located where Café Med and Manny’s Bar and Grill used to be on Sandy Plains Road just north of East Piedmont on Kinjac Road. The restaurant is owned by Chef Alain Njike who specializes in world cuisine and advertises his use of organic seasonal produce and local ingredients, although there was no mention of where he finds his food on the menu. Chef Njike relocated to Marietta from Chicago where he ran a restaurant that closed after only a few months in business.

The restaurant is nicely appointed with some cool African art pieces about the dining room – a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Although the men’s room was clean and stocked, it was very plain. Once everyone in our party was seated Chef Njike brought out plated appetizers of fried plantains for everyone, a nice touch. They were absolutely delicious – very crispy with a touch of sweet and spice he uses in most of his cooking. My wife and I shared a grilled romaine heart, which was good, and I had one of the grilled scallops, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I ordered the grilled chicken with potatoes and asked our server for the chef to “get creative” with it as I really wanted to taste his African flavorings, and my wife ordered the southern inspired shrimp and grits. Both entrees were excellent, perfectly cooked with a really nice spice combination. I had the opportunity to try the blackened whiting that had a compliment of craw fish in a light spicy sauce over the top, which was probably the best blackened fish I have tasted – not buttery or oily like some places but the fish was more “encrusted” in a very spicy ensemble of Chef Njike’s signature flavors. Everyone at the table shared the chef’s wine selections, which were very good, yet they have only one type of craft beer from Oregon (can’t recall the name), which had a nutty caramel overtone – very interesting flavor. Dessert was not offered on the menu, but the table did share a large dish of vanilla ice cream dusted with cinnamon – very good. After our meal Chef Njike visited our table and shared with us his concept for cooking, the basis of his spices, and how he uses some of the traditions of Cameroon in his cooking.

We were one of only three other parties in the restaurant, which seems odd as they have been open now over three months. The service is a bit on the slow side because they had only one server taking care of us and the other parties, and it appeared that Chef Njike was the kitchen staff (he probably was washing the dishes too after we left). The prices seemed consistent with most places of similar quality, $6 to $12 for appetizers and $11 to $23 for entrees. Although my chicken came with a compliment of very rich whipped potatoes, the blackened fish was not served with a starch or vegetable and was $19.

If you like bold flavors and want to try something different, give Sun Dried a try.
